Oh tell me this isn't really happening. I won't be getting the heparin done this coming week I know now for sure and they order the wrong dosage for this week so it was a very low dose and only made things worse. Why can't compaines do what they are supposed to???????????? They are medical ones for goodness sakes!

Wow, you've got to be kidding. I can't believe it. Is any heparin safe anymore? I'm really starting to question where my meds are from and how safe or unsafe they are! My uro had suggested that there may be a heparin shortage from the Baxter recall, but with this one too, it may be impossible to get! He had advised me (THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE MEDICAL ADVICE!!CHECK W/YOUR DR!!!!) to open 2 elmiron capsules and mix w/10cc of sterile water or saline and substitute that for the heparin if I ran out. So the uros are working on alternatives for us that do daily instills. I still feel the Baxter heparin irritated my IC and set me back a bit.
Thanks Kadi for the info!

Thanks for letting us know.

Those of you who can use the Elmiron option are lucky. For me, taking Elmiron orally made my IC horribly horribly worse, there's no way I'd be willing to put it directly into my bladder... Right now, I'm just hoping the replacement heparin I have won't be recalled too....

This just really sucks. I couldn't take the elmiron by mouth either but I did try mixing it with water for the instills and it did nothing. Like having a cool-aid instill.
