I just noticed that we had this forum! :lmao: I would have come here ages ago.
My IC started shortly after a huge hormonal shift caused my periods to become heavy, my PMS to get to the point where I'd scream and yell at people, and I'd cramp up something horrible. I'm now on the pill to keep me from dealing with that month after month.
Well, it's placebo week, and I can feel already that it's not going to be fun. I cramp up horrible, but I can't tolerate ibuprofein anymore, which is what I used to take. Does anyone have any other pain meds I could try? I would really like to not spend my entire day with the heating pad.
I completely understand your pain.
I love Midol. God bless Midol. ;) And Excedrin.
They have those heating pads that stick to your skin and don't require electricity if you don't mind those.
How long have you been on the pill? Before I was on the pill I would get cramps right before my period and now, a few months after getting on the pill, I don't get the bad cramps anymore. It took a couple of months of patience on the pill, but they are mostly gone. If I do get any, they are very mild. Hopefully the pill will help you with your pain. Hope you feel better!

Can you take Aleve? My doctors recommended that but I know some people can't take it because it flares their IC. I also take my prescription pain meds.
I hope you find something that works for you!!

I've been on the pill for almost a year. My cramps are much better than they were, but before the IC I could tolerate Ibuprofein. I don't think I can take aleve because it has ibuprofein in it.
I tried those stick on heat pads, but they really don't work well for me (For me to feel anything, I have to keep my heating pad on high; usually to the point where my skin gets all red.).Plus I discovered that if I sit my laptop over them, they get super hot.
I may have to get myself some midol. I don't know why I've never used it, but I guess it would be worth a try.

Aleve is naproxen. It does not have ibuprofen in it. My drs told me it was fine to actually take aleve and ibuprofen together if I wanted.
There are many different kinds of midol and some have naproxen(aleve) in them. Some have ibuprofen in them. Just wanted to let you know since you said you can not take ibuprofen. The midol website explains all the active and inactive ingredients in each kind.
Good luck finding one that works for you.

I know this may sound weird but why not take stronger pain meds like a percet or somthing in that family ? What about herbal tea like Camomille?

I would love some strong pain meds, not just for the pms but for my daily pain, but my current Uro refuses to give me any. Thankfully, my pain level has lowered thanks to the Prosed DS and Atarax that I take now.
I didn't know that Aleve didn't have Ibuprofein in it. I'll have to get myself some. And I can drink Camomille and Peppermint tea, which I do when I take my Prosed, so that helps a little bit.
Aleve (Naproxen) is a good suggestion.
The Midol I use does not have ibuprofen or naproxen in it; it has Acetaminophen. I use Midol Menstrual Complete and it works wonderfully. : )

When I started taking magnesium for constipation, the added bonus is that I barely need to take painkillers at my period. Apparently, that's a use for mag! And I used to get killer cramps, to the point where I was taking about three Aleve at a time.

Well, I discovered that I can take Tylenol again! As a kid, I used to throw up with Tylenol, so I'm glad I can tolerate it again. I also bought some Aleve to try tomorrow, so that I have something else in my aresenal.
Thanks for your help y'all. Now to get rid of this cold...

Be careful with Aleve. It's a trigger for many IC patients --- I know I can't take it.

I used to take midol too but that stopped helping. My cramps and heavy bleeding kept getting worse over the years so now I get a script from my Uro for Naproxen 550 mgs. It works wonders. The only thing that will help to stop the heavy bleeding with clots and cramps. Do have to start taking it the day before my period starts if I can figure out when that time is. Menopause huring up and start already! I've been ready since 11 years of age.

I used to alternate between Motrin 800 & Anaprox DS. That was back in High School. Calcium can help relax muscles however I don't recommend that you take it without taking magnesium. I did that & it constipated me even more:help: :smile tee:cat:
I have to take hydrocodone (Vicodin) for my periods. Nothing else helps the pain, and even with the meds it's still bad :(
But that IS the only thing I've found to help.
