View Full Version : Having Nerve Block Tomorrow

I will be having a nerve block done in the morning. It will be done in my lower back. The doctor uses an x-ray machine to guide the needles and I will have it on both sides. I have had 3 of them done before and they usually put me to sleep. I asked to just be sedated instead of having general anesthesia. I am a little nervous about doing this awake but I think they will sedate me enough to where I probably won't remember a thing. Please keep me in your prayers and I will let everyone know how it goes.
Thanks :)

Hi..
I had a nerve block at S3 last week. I was awake where previously I was asleep as well. It hurts at first as the doc is putting the local anethestic (sp) in. I had a nurse who held my hand and helped me to remember to breathe...
For me, one side was more numb and the other side was not at all. It took about 45 minutes for mine because the doc had a hard time finding the right spot (I have small holes, the doc said). Afterwards, it was ok...but I hurt later. For me, it didn't take.
Hopefully for you, it will be better. Feel free to private message me if you have more specific questions. I am more than happy to share as I wish I had someone when I went through mine..

I am back home now. I had a hypogastric nerve block on both sides. It went o.k. except for one time he hit the nerve and I felt it all the way to the bottom of my foot. I just started crying. It hurt so bad. I did o.k. in the recovery room and they gave me something in my IV to help with the pain. The doctor put steroids into the nerve so he said it usually takes 36 hours to start feeling the effects from the steroids. I did have about 4 hours of pain relief but it is coming back. I am going to keep a positive attitude about this and I just pray that I do get some relief after the steroids kick in. I can have another nerve block done in about 2-3 months if it helps. I am so grateful for my doctor. He is so kind, compassionate, and caring
Thanks to everyone who posted back and who are praying for me. I really appreciate your support
