Hi:
I should have know better, but my bladder would not empty for two days. I am not good at cathing myself. I ended up at my primary dr. who called 911 after collapsing from pain 2 times. In an ambulance, they would not let me drive. Well they cathed about 1400 mls from my bladder, yes I am one of those weird ones with a huge bladder but still lots of frequency and pain. I have to wear a leg bag for a week. It is killing me you know where, My uro gave me some urelle, and kept saying how bad he felt. On top of a torn shoulder
I told him we need to discuss taking the bladder out, and his response was no thats a good strong bladder. Prayers needed taking lots of valium and metadone.

   I am so sorry this happened. I am really glad you were able to get some help.
I know you didn't mean this the way it looks in print, but I did get a chuckle from this statement:
In an ambulance, they would not let me drive.
I hope you start feeling better very soon. (((Hugs)))

:grouphug: Oh, I know your pain...I'm so sorry you had to go through this but so happy you got adequate and timely treatment! I also have had some severe retention problems a couple of times that required ER visits or hospitlization and I know how extremely over the top painful it is. I also have one of those big bladders and have been cathed of over a 1000 ml during retention episodes...during my hydro I was distended to 1275 ml! I also have had to wear leg bags for a week or more...a nuisance but also a Godsend for the relief it can give you. I hope you are doing well and recover quickly. Be sure to discuss any meds w/ your dr which could contribute to retention problems. Take care and best wishes :grouphug:
He he...they never let me drive the ambulance either ;)

One thing that might help keep the catheter more comfortable is to tape it to your leg so it won't pull as bad. Be sure to have plenty of catheter length between the urethra and where you tape it. When I had to have a cath for several days I reached down to about my knee, took hold of the tubing and lifted it to about 6 inches above the knee and taped it securely. It really helped.
