Does this count as a spring-time photo? I think it should because after all, I was outside doing yardwork on this spring-like day when I turned the weedeater off and heard what sounded like popcorn popping. Only to turn around and discover this........

Claredale

I know how that happened!!! I did it to my husband brand new car shortly after we got married. I am laughing now, but man was I trying to think of an excuse since he made a big deal about me moving his car.

Tracey

Sharon, how do I move the pictures.....

03-13-2008, 10:06 AM
Sounds like T83 needs to explain her story..:lmao:

On a happier note--the husband went to Lowes to see about having the glass replaced; came back with a new door. Seems this particular door was delivered to a woman only for her to return it due to it being the wrong door. Since it had already been drilled and prepared to be hung at her house, Lowes couldnt resell it for its original price of $300. Kevin got it for $100..:woohoo:

A happy moment for a change in my life! :D
D
PS---sad to be happy about a door..hahaha..had a happy moment a few nights ago as I got a new clothes dryer..all this happiness, I dont know what to do with..:lmao:

Okay, my story....It was all "on a accident" as my youngest son used to say. I was weed eating one wonderful Saturday afternoon and I must have hit a rock or something and it hit the windshield of my hubby's car. It looked very much like the storm door, so I just assumed the same "accident" occurred! He had just bought his first brand new car and things just happen some times! I know I was supposed to move it, but who is to say the rock wouldn't have still hit it on if I parked it on the street.

When he purchased his 2nd vehicle (a truck) a few years later, I was trying to pull up a stubborn Juniper bush that I hated, so I put a chain around the bush and my hubby's bumper and proceeded to pull the bush out of my flower bed. I have to mention that about 4 men that lived on my cove all watched me while I was doing this without even asking me if they could help. I had already tried to dig it out! I pulled the truck forward and the sound to follow wasn't the sound of the bush being pulled out of the ground, but of the bumper coming off of the truck. So much for Ford Tough!!!!!

Needless to say, these accidents have not caused me to lose the "privilege" of working in the yard. I keep telling him that I need to stick to just planting and enjoying my flowers, but he is a slave driver! LOL!

Well, they aren't all spring pictures, except for the baseball field at Mississippi State. It's not even this spring. It is supposed to be a beautiful spring weekend, so I hope I can post some pictures next week of wonderful springtime, one of my favorite seasons of the year.

That was back before funniest home videos, hate to say, but we ran into one of our former neighbors on Friday and they remembered my story! Hubby told them that when we moved into our new house...it isn't new anymore, the builders put in those awful junipers. They were put on the street before we even moved in!

Hi guys! Glad to see you guys are still here! This home renovation is keeping me so busy that I haven't had much time check the boards.

I just love D's cockatiel photos. So cute!!
Here are a few I've taken recently of MuShu.

Where we are at with the renovation:

http://jane-alexander.smugmug.com/photos/267971352_HRbdu-M.jpg

The guys just put up the drywall and are doing the "mudding". Next they'll sand it and paint and do the trim work. We think we have about three weeks to go. It has gone pretty smoothly so far.

I've been gone for two weeks. My computer crashed and my husband had to rebuild it. I also went to a wedding in Chicago for one of my best childhood friends. I was in the wedding.

I've got lots of nice photos for our Spring Edition of a Photo A Day.

I'll post and catch up on things this week.

At the local marine science center theres an outdoor public Harbor seal pool/exhibit thats home to about 4 seals (couldnt get them to stay still long enough to get an accurate count!..haha). I went down there yesterday as seals are sure to bring a smile to anyones face---and I damn sure need to smile! :)..

These arent the best pics, as some were taken through glass, others underwater via glass and then add to it the seals wouldnt remain still long enough to insure a clear shot....

Janie...I have been following your renovation on your blog. It is so much fun to see things as they progress. Ahhhh MuShu is back. YEA!!!!!

D...I absolutely love to watch seals. I used to love to go to Monetary Bay on the Coast of California and see them "in the wild".

Jen...Thanks for the touch of Spring. The pictures are very good. Will someone please pass the marshmallows this way?

Kara...:hi: We missed you.

dg2901

Sharon--dont be turning green over there! Not sure it's your color..haha..:)
The ocean is a wonderful thing, is it not?! We spend many a night walking the beach---theres nothing much more relaxing in this world.

SharonA
03-26-2008, 11:00 AM
I'm a redhead. I look good in green. :lmao:

There is nothing like the ocean to calm you when you are having a hard time with life. I miss being close enough to the ocean that I could be there and back within a day's time. I have always wanted to live close enough that I could drive there and spend an hour or so just drinking in the sounds, smells and the feeling of an ocean breeze on my face whenever I wanted. Walking on the beach is one of my favorite things to do in all the world. Spend some time there for me, would you?

dg2901
03-26-2008, 04:47 PM
Sharon---I'll spend as many hours at the beach as you'd like for me to spend--and now I have an excuse to go down there more often! :woohoo:
I'm a 20 minute drive from both the Atlantic ocean, and the Chesapeake bay..both very nice places to spend a few hours. :)

Leslie--missing the ocean already?..You just got back a couple of weeks ago! Thats a sure sign that you must have had a good time! :D

Janie Miranda
03-27-2008, 08:52 AM
Awwww the ocean sounds so nice right now! We used to live in Hawaii, Florida, California, Puerto Rico - all courtesy of the US Navy. We are landlocked now but I sure remember fondly all those fun times we used to have snorkeling, sailing, riding horses on the beach, etc. We are all going to have to live vicariously through Diana now! LOL

Diana, the renovations are going well and I think they will be finished in three weeks. The finished the drywall and most of the painting so now they have to finish up the trim, put in the door frames and doors, finish the fixtures in the new bathroom and the electricians have to come back and put in the lights. Another thing they have to do is finish up the stairs. They've still got temporary boards on the stairs because they didn't want to scuff up the oak treads that will be on the finished stairs. The very last thing will be the carpet. Please keep your fingers crossed that we'll get done on time. The renovation has gone very very smoothly and I would highly recommend our contractor to any of my friends who live here locally - Sharon and Tracy :-)

LOVE the Robin picture - Oh my lord I have so many Robins in my yard and they're eating all my grass seed LOL! I send my son out to shoo them away, its the funniest thing to watch him go outside flapping his arms wildly and they all just sort of stare at him like "EH...whatchoogonnado?" :smile tee as he screams like a raving lunatic around the yard. Of course, they always come right back - along with the black birds. Ugh...now THOSE scare me!:help:

This is the entrance to the cemetary of St Pauls Episcopal Church in Norfolk. As the oldest building in Norfolk, its also the only structure to survive the British destruction of the city on New Years Day 1776, when a cannonball was fired by Lord Dunmore. The cannonball is still in the building to this day (will get a pic very soon). This cemetary is 'home' to 17th, 18th and 19th century tombstones....

Wow D, that place must be incredible to walk around in. That is if you are allowed to do that. I find cemeteries very interesting. My father's family has been buried in the same small town cemetery for a very long time. Any time I visit the town, I end up going to the cemetery and just walking around looking at all the names. This may sound morbid to anyone else, but I do enjoy looking at my past and remembering everyone who has gone before me. I think it is a good way to touch the past.

Sharon---I too enjoy walking through cemetaries, especially old ones (and no, its not morbid in the least). Its interesting to read about the people who are buried as most older tombstones usually have some sort of history about the deceased. This particular cemetary is open to the public, if you will. In the picture I posted, the church is immediately to the right. Its a bit mind-boggling to me to think that people were alive and walking the same places as I am today, so very long ago.

Brittany--aaaaah, more lovely pictures! They're all so happy and spring-like! You're right about the blue sky in the last picture..doesnt look real, does it!?..:)

Diana - great pics! Oh I'm jealous! Over here near the mountains we have YET to bloom for our dogwoods or anything else except our daffodils and a few little wild violets! Our Pear Trees just got done blooming about 2 weeks ago and still have blooms on them! :bonk: It's amazing how sllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooow things are here compared to 1 hour away from here. We drive to see hubby's mom and its like Full Peak Season LMAO! UGH! *green eyed monster - hee hee hee* I just looked at my dogwoods and azeala's yesterday and they should start to open in the next 2 weeks if I'm lucky LOL!

Brittany---bloooms this year are rather odd. My neighbors azaleas are all bloomed (he has his all neatly hedged--not sure why though! :loco:), and mine havent so much as attempted to bloom. I have the one lonely daffodil that shows its pretty face every year. My rose bushes I cut way back last year now have lovely green leaves--cant wait for those to bloom! :) I have plenty of dandelions though..hahahaha.

Every year for Christmas my 81 year old Grandmother gives all of the women in the family an Amarillus Plant. This particular plant of mine has been in hibernation for 6 years. A Few Days Ago while my Mom was visting we noticed in one of my windows that this Amarillus Plant was starting 4 buds. Two of them have gone into full bloom and the other two should be out within a few days. The reason I tell this story is because I believe that it is a sign of good things and health to come!

Kara...We have on of those plants in the area at the side of our house. It is the only one. We never knew what it was because the former owners of our house did all the landscaping. Now I have an answer to the mystery. Thank you for solving this ever burning question. What is it??? :lmao:

Ronda---I could eat sushi daily! though, like you mentioned, its a bit pricey. Funny as I'm right on the ocean-you'd think it would be easy to come by!..:hmm:

Speaking of challenges, I joined a group challenge on Flickr that's called 100 Strangers. The goal is to photograph..well...100 strangers. No candid shots are permitted, which means you must seek out a "stranger" who peeks your interest, approach them, ask permission to photograph them and get a bit of background on them. I never thought something could be so nerve-wrecking!..:lmao:..I observed the group for a week before deciding to join in. I approached my first "stranger" Friday night--my lucky #1 was a waitress at the sushi restaurant. I dont have permission to post her picture/information anywhere other than within the group though. If anyones interested in keeping track feel free to check out my Flickr page..my "strangers" are organized in a group from my homepage. :)

Thanks for correcting me on the word irisis, I just couldn't think of the plural! LOL!

What a fun idea! I love to meet new people and when I am with some of my friends that make me very brave, I normally take the opportunity to talk to them. I was such a shy child growing up, and it was definitely something I got over. Having 2 sons that loved meeting people which they got that personality trait from their dad and their grandfather. That would absolutely be so much fun. I just need to get out there and make friends. Now you know posting pictures is still something I struggle with, but I may just give it a try!

I used to go on scavenger hunts with the kids in the youth group with a video camera. I guess if I can convince the lady at the pretzel store in the mall to teach me how to make a pretzel on video, or talk the shoes salesman to let you help a customer, maybe I can meet some strangers and take their picture and get a little bit of their story. Another thing we had to do, which in hindsight was so not really nice, but we would give "points" to the groups that could add something to someones basket at Walmart and they actually paid for it. "Otherwise known as the "Walmart" game. People actually take their kids on their 13th birthday and play this game and then have a sleepover. Down south, I guess it doesn't take much to entertain a bunch of 13 year olds, but for a while, that seemed to be the rage. We did that on several different mission trips that we went to in different places in the US. Now we didn't put in "mean" stuff, but there were a few men that actually paid for tampons a few times. What fun days those used to be. Since we know this game goes on throughout many of the discount stores now, we are quite aware of what goes down the belt most of the time! I have had it happen a couple times when I went shopping and just to "allow the kids to get their documentation", I would follow along. We even bought some adult diapers one time, but I figured I would add it to my collection for some fabulous 50 party coming up!

I guess it would be cheating if I do it at church tomorrow. Our church has been growing by leaps and bounds the last several months. Hubby says that 3 couples joined our Sunday School group last week. I wasn't there, so they would still be strangers to me. But I don't know if that would be the right setting for taking snapshots.

D...I guess having the bird and the squirrel feeding each other might be a little too much, but a friendly high five might do! lOL!

dg2901
04-06-2008, 01:55 PM
T83--I'll work on the high-five. Perhaps I can leave a note on the fence to inform them of this request..:lmao:

Re: the 100 Strangers...its going to take me forever to accomplish this as I dont quite have a technique as of yet. It took me the whole time we were eating to finally get the courage to approach this young lady..haha..Hoping as the weather improves and more people are out and about in more relaxed venues (think, the beach!), my tally will slowly and steadily creep towards my goal. :)
The main purpose of this particular group is to improve street photography and portrait skills. However, that'll never be me! :):D
So I say, if you're a people person and enjoy being behind a lens, then join in the fun! :):)

I tried a hike yesterday. Boy! AM I out of shape in more ways than just be chronically ill!!! I fell once but only hit my knee. Then I was worried about damaging my poor camera. I think it still works....better go and check!

Anyway, here are some photos of my day. You can all appreciate the things that were going through my head as I followed the rest of the group, WAY BEHIND! No one knew anything about me.

Good thing I have a medical ID bracelet. I didn't want anyone to know how sick I really am. I wanted to see if I could do it. I did but I'm paying for it today. I need more supportive shoes. My sneakers didn't work so well for my ankles. Now I am just complaining like a 90 year old woman....how sad!

Kara--the hike looks like it was quite scenic. Was this near your home, or did you have to venture? I like the first pic and the one of the lake..very tranquil! And whats a hike if you dont take a tumble..haha..sorry!.hopefully nothing more than a skinned knee..:)
Did the camera survive? They're pretty tough, actually. :)

Sharon--:hi: :D

We made a purchase yesterday; an '01 VW Wolfsburg. Its the offsprings as his car was junked a couple of months ago. We had him cosign in order to help him establish credit. If he defaults...well..we have a *new* car!..hahaha....

Well, we have been working on our bathroom for it seem likes forever. Just been doing it slowly on days when Dom has time in the evenings and on weekends. I had some before pictures. But I took them with my sons camera. And now he seems to have misplaced it..lol But it is ALMOST done. LOL I did a tecture thing on the wall that made it look really neat. This house is pretty old so the walls had been scuffed up pretty bad. So I tried something to make it look a little more modern. I think it came out ok.. But here is what we have so far. When it is complete I will take more to show you. BTW this is Doms first job at tiling.. I think he did great!

WJC always seems pleased with himself..hahaha..I think its a cat thing--every one I've ever met comes across that way..:lmao:..And the boy...yeah he's quite pleased. He's been w/o a car for pushing 2 months now. We'll see just how pleased he is when the first payment comes due..:help:..Figured since he's wanted to play hardball the last 1.5 yrs, he's now going to have to step up to the plate and learn how life works in the real world. On the upside, by us placing him on the loan this will establish him credit..:)

I was with a Friend at Barns and Noble today and this man brought in a pet Dinosaur and let it roam around the cafe. We were in awe of it. It came up to me and I pet it and it purred, then it fell asleep under my chair. Very VERY Strange! It even felt real!

It's called Paleo. This is way more advanced that a Furbie! The more you teach it, the more it can do and with time it will get better as more computer programs come out for it.

For purposes of showing how this little guy works, I have posted this link. Not for selling purposes. This is a Youtube Video which we often use to show video that we find interesting.

Okay, I am not keeping with the norm of landscape and flowers and such. I have sat here scanning through all of my picture files on my pc and discovered all of them are of my daughter Katie. Imagine that. She will be 5 Thursday. These pics were taken April 12, the day after my lap, at a fashion show benefiting WVU Childrens Hospital. I am one proud Momma. I think we are officially ready for the pagent circuit. She was in her first pagent at 4 months and has been in 2 fashion shows and will be in Miss Mason Dixon this September. She loves the stage.

Ladies - what wonderful photos! I've been lacking in this department so I took some over the weekend after the intense rain storms we've had. The rainbow (It was STUNNING!) was taken across the way on my way to the grocery store (yep, I live in the sticks :) and love it!) and the little bug - well that was taken last spring (late May) and his little "armor" got dented! :) I just fell in love with the little guy...he reminded me of a little "knight in shining armor"

D - ewwwww...yukky spider! LOL I took a pic of a yellow and black one - they are called St. Andrews Cross spiders and they spin the most amazing webs if you're lucky to catch them. In the center are nothing but "Z's", almost like a zig zag stitch pattern on a sewing machine. Its soooo neat to watch them make it! If you happen to go out late around dusk, you may be lucky to catch them in the process! Lovely roses btw!

Re: the spider..I do believe I've got a picture of the spider you speak of. I'm not good with names so I searched the St Andrews Cross spider and it looks like one I've got a pic of. I'll have to dig through the archives to see if I can find it. If so I'll post.. :)

PS--if you use Photobucket as your picture hosting site, you can choose the "clickable thumbnail" option to keep image size compressed. :)

D - That spider is too creepy though...OMG the one I took a pic of was sitting on my porch and I wanted to kill it - but.... my youngest convinced me not to  so I stood there watching it *at dusk* and it spun its web and I was amazed. I named mine Nancy LOL and it stayed around for about 3 weeks - every morning before I walked out my door I ensured Nancy was still in her same place (heavens forbid she even MOVED near my door or she'd be dead..I assure you LMAO!) - then one day....Nancy disappeared  I think a bird ate her. We actually would feed her crickets and little bugs, so I was a little sad when she disappeared. It was so neat to watch the web spinning. I hope you can catch "Sam" doing it - have your camera ready - its amazing to watch!

It was very surreal - that rainbow! I almost wrecked my car when I saw it:smile tee. I made like a million wishes and then some. I dont think my shutter on my camera ever clicked so much in its life. It seemed like it stayed there forever but it was only there for about a minute or so. I zoomed in on the bow itself to see if I could capture all the colors and surprisingly, I caught quite a few! I've never seen a full rainbow like that, only portions of them so I was quite surprised as well!

I'm really big into gardening/plants both inside and out. I love flowers especially intricate, odd or exotic ones. Here are a few of my orchids in my living room window. some_guy...Welcome to the photo board. We have a lot of fun on this board. We get to know another side of each other besides the IC side. I loved seeing your Orchids. They are beautiful. The view through the windows is lovely. Looking forward to the Bleeding Heart pictures. Many, many years ago, my grandmother gave me one. I planted it but had to leave it when I moved from that area. It was a sad day but I could not take it with me. I saw it several years ago when I visited someone from the old neighborhood. It was doing fine and thriving. I am very glad about that. To this day, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Bleeding Heart Plant.

Bri...I have seen those spiders many times. Their webs are extraordinary.
No...I am not a spider fan but I can recognize art in webs when I see them.

D...Watch out...I have a new can of spray. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Note to Everyone: Please try to make your pictures smaller. We love to look at your pictures but they need to be posted in a smaller size. The "clickable thumbnail" ones that Diana suggested are perfect. We can see them and can get an even closer look at them by clicking on them without taking up so much space on this board. No...I won't be taking a closer look at the spiders...maybe the webs, but not the spiders. :lmao:

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for the compliments on the orchids, they and other plants bring me so much joy and I get to play in the dirt :) Your bleeding heart story is great, it's really cool that you got to visit it and see that it was still thriving.

I will start resizing photos to make them smaller and just add a link to larger copy to help keep loading time down as you suggested.

My son and I planted this bleeding heart along with some patio bricks and a bench in the garden as a birthday present for my wife three years ago so she would have a pleasant place to read. These photos don't really do it justice because it is kind of cloudy here today but here goes...

Hi,

Thanks!

That bleeding heart amazes me, it was a spindly little plant in a 6" pot three years ago. It really seems to love the spot it is in.

I saw some photos of yellow roses you posted, they look beautiful. Can you share any rose growing secrets? :)
I really love the yellows but have had trouble with getting them to take. I grabbed two new yellows a few weeks back and planted one in large pot for deck and one where my best red and pink roses do well.

SG---i do absolutely nothing to my rose bushes, believe it or not. I've got 2--both yellow--one we planted last year, and the other has been here for over 24 yrs. They start blooming as soon as it gets warm and continue to bloom well into the fall months. Last fall I cut them both way back and they both sprung right back this year.
Sent the husband out to Lowes today to look for a bleeding heart plant with no luck; seems we're going to have to get to a nursery to find one. :)

Sharon--you always have such lovely stories to tell. :)

I'm glad everyone likes the flower photos, you may have unleashed a monster because with IC I'm even more into gardening and may get crazy with the photos as everything takes off and blooms :)

I planted 150 mixed sunflowers which will make a huge blast of color, bees and birds to enjoy in 4-6 more weeks.

Here is a photo of my best friend. This guy has helped me handle many horrible days by making me take him to a nearby park for frisbee, hiking and swimming in the morning before starting work. Some days it was awful for me but the joy of seeing him happy helped me get by.

Hi everyone - I know you guys thought I probably fell off the face of the earth but I'm still here. We are finally finished with the remodeling!!! I still have to haul a bazillion things back upstairs but at least we won't have workers in the house every day all day!!
We also took a trip to Disney World. It was our daughter's first time and it was great. We only stayed a few days because we had to rush back to get the remodeling finished up but we had a super time.
Check out this photo I took of the Disney castle. I had bought a little cheap camera to take and it performed great!! The camera is the panasonic Lumix FZ-18

I'm lookiing forward to catching up with everyone!

Anyone like bromeliads?

Here are a couple that I really like for ease of care and long lasting color.
The one with pink bloom is a common one Aechmea Fasciata found at many garden centers. The red leaf one with the candy corn looking spike is a less common Aechmea Oregon I got on ebay from a grower in florida.

http://209.150.105.3/plants/bromeliads_day.jpg

I took this photo in the woods while hiking, I think it is either a wild azalea or mountain laurel in bloom. Not really extraordinary but kind of cool to find in the wild.

Guy, funny you should mention that type of plant - my daughter bought me my first one yesterday for an early mother's day present. I don't know the first thing about these plants so I'll have to pick your brain. I'll post a photo of mine later.

Sharon, oh crap . . . more storms and I'm supposed to take my daughter to a "Tea Party" late this afternoon. I hate driving in storms and if they are really bad we just won't be going. Some little girl will have a horrible birthday Tea if nobody shows up because of storms.

Hubby has our daughter out for a fishing trip this morning. Our adoption support group is getting together for that. This kid has more social engagements than the first lady!

Hi Jane,

That's a great gift, you'll love how long the flower spike lasts. When you post the picture I'll know more which variety you have and can help with tips. The main thing for most Bromeliads (contrary to popular belief) is to not keep the cone filled with water all the time because it will make the flower spike and eventually even the leaves rot. Sometimes the care tag even says to keep water in cone all the time but for most indoor conditions that is bad advice, I'll explain more later...

The Tree photos are of a mutated tree with smaller trees growing out of the main trunk. I thought someone had placed the flowers there for my Sister in Law's Graduation but upon closer inspection, we found out that they were actually attached to the trunk. So strange. I'm still shaking my head over it because I've never seen anything like it.

Diana, thanks for the beautiful mother's day wish!!

Hi Jane,

The Bromeliad you got is a Guzmania variety, they don't have the cone or more accurately vase look and shape to them. The type you have is a very pretty variety and should hold it's red color for many weeks, possibly months but they are not as tough as some of the other varieties.

General indoor care:

Light -
put it in well/best lit area in a window if possible but make sure that sun does not pound directly on it for long periods because it can burn.

Temp -
It's tropical of course so just make sure it does not freeze if you are putting it on porch or something.

Water -
Keep soil moist not soaked, usually for a bromeliad in a 6" pot under most indoor conditions you can water once a week about a cup of water. You can water more often as long as you make sure it drains well. Bromeliads are very forgiving, so if you forget to water it's not big deal and less water is better than to much.
Bromeliads like some water/mist on flower and leaf margins, in the wild they are generally growing in trees or on rocks and don't have much of a root ball area so they are designed to catch water in cone/vase or leaf margins. For indoor conditions you don't want to have a bunch of water in the leaf margins all the time but you do want to mist the whole plant once a week or twice if you can. Just mist the leaves so that a few beads of water trickle down to center of plant.

Fertilizer -
A small pinch (like 1/10 teaspoon) of miracle grow or something similar in the quart or larger spray/mister bottle works well. That way when you are giving it water you also lightly feeding it to.

Life cycle -
When you get a Bromeliad in bloom you are basically getting a dieing plant. The life cycle is to grow, bloom, produce pups (offsets) then slowly die. Ideally you'll already have a pup - new plant growing from the base of mother plant or it should start to grow one soon. Later as the mother plant dies off you'll cut it out leaving the pup in the pot to grow and repeat the cycle.

Note: some care tags say to keep cone/vase or leaf margins full of water, while this would be okay in the wild or outside with lots of airflow it's bad for indoor plant stuck in a pot because it can make it rot.

G'day everyone. I have been having a lovely time catching up on all your posts. I didn't realize how much I missed the boards until today. All those gorgeous flowers and plants and one of my favourites too! Bromelaids!
My most recent photos are from a weekend when my hubby and I went to the town of Clunes about 150kms from Melbourne. On this weekend the town is turned over to books. There are stalls everywhere selling old and rare books.

While once an affluent thriving goldrush town, Clunes is now a sleepy little place.

Ronda, those babies are adorable. Are they still doing OK? I had a dove building a nest in my gutter but the silly creature finally realized her nest would be flooded each time it rained and she flew off before any eggs hatched.

Hi D,

The first picture is lantana, the second one is the firecracker plant, and the other ones are the butterfly bush. The lady that lived here before we did planted everything and she spent lots of time taking care of them. The butterfly bush was planted in honor of her sister who survived breast cancer, so everytime I look at it I get a big smile on my face. :smile tee

Janie,
I would be happy to send you some cuttings if I could figure out how to do it. :smile tee I will do some research to learn how to do that. I bought a Confederate Rose bush from Ebay and let it root. I planted it about one month ago and it looks like it is going to grow. I have never had a green thumb so if it makes it I will be thrilled :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Kara,
Sorry to hear about your camera. Hopefully it will get there soon. You take such good pictures and I love looking at them.

Rosalie,

Bessie,
You are very sweet! I think i should be able to find them around here though but i truly appreciate your offer for the cuttings.

Diana, things are going good around here except i had another camera die on me. I am really aggravated! It's that little panasonic FZ18 and that is the second one I've managed to "kill".

http://k43.pbase.com/g1/39/596739/3/97578982.BY1kX4Bo.jpg
Diana, I'm not sure how I killed my panasonic. A few "knowlegeable" people thought I might have blown out the sensor taking the above sunset photo but other people think that the sun wasn't bright enough to have killed it. Either way, I won't be taking any more shots pointing towards the sun.

I've heard the new Canon is a good one. It's gotten great reviews. It is supposed to be more like my 40D for a less money.

dg2901
05-26-2008, 04:02 AM
wow Jane! Ihad no idea a sun shot could possibly ruin a camera. I've got tons of sun shots...fortunately w/o incident.
Re: the new Canon. Its priced around $850. I've seen the 40D as low as $900. It kills me when I see the new cameras priced lower than what I paid for my XTI. I'm sure you feel the same... Hahaha... My wallet doesn't laugh though... Haha. :lmao:

Jane---thanks for allowing me to pick your brain, and offering your suggestions and help...much appreciated!!! :kissing:
I got to thinking after my small meltdown about doing these and having them to be presentable for years to come, that it really didnt/doesnt matter to me how "perfect" they turn(ed) out--the fact that it gave he and I some alone time is/was all that mattered. :) Sappy huh? *sniffle sniffle*

Sharon---did you notice he even gave me half a smirk in the last picture?.:lmao:..I'll have to go through the pics again as if memory serves me I did infact catch him with a grin. :)
Regarding his haircut--he did that himself about a month ago. He got tired of having it blowing in his face when he has his moon roof opened in the car..hahaha...whatever the incentive, I say! :)

Kara--woohoo--your camera is back...and very operational!!! :).
That is one honkin' big goose (no pun intended)...and the single rose I do believe is my fave! :D

Kara, Yeaaaahhhhh , glad you camera is back. Love this latest series of photos. The flowers are gorgeous and I especially love the sunset.

Been extremely quiet here---whats up with everyone? :)

Thought i'd post this quick snapshot. The spouse was stung by, what we later figured out was a wasp. He's never been allergic to anything, however less than an hour after being stung he found himself in the ER with anaphylactic shock. Lovely way to start off a Sunday...

These snapshots were taken 12 hours after being stung, and do the size of his hand no justice...

Wow Diana. That must have been very scary. Glad he is alright!! The last time I got stung by a wasp my hand swelled up like never before. Wonder if these little pests are getting more venomous?

Hi all....

Yeah, it was quite a scary situation with the spouse. He's not allergic to anything so this caught up completely off guard. He started deteriorating fairly rapidly..fortunately we're not too far from the hospital. By the time we walked through the door, his hand was swollen beyond recognition, his hearing was fading, he was struggling to breathe, BP was extremely high, O2 level was low, respirations were bouncing between being very fast to very slow, he had lost feeling in his fingers....very alarming to say the least. The ER staff & respiratory therapy were right on top of things and had him stabilized within an hour. Of course, being a man, he insisted being discharged asap...he was having no part of hanging around any longer than need be.

Wow Diana. That is very very scary. Glad all is well now. He might have to start carrying an Epi pen. My dad was allergic to bee stings and the doctors told him the next one could be fatal.

dg2901

Jane---yeah, he's now close and personal friends with the EpiPen. Kevin was told the same thing--the next one will be worse, and could possibly be fatal. He's overly cautious at the moment to say the least..haha.

On a happier note, the offspring's graduation ceremony was Weds night :woohoo: Thought I'd share the moment....

the venue--empty seats waiting for the Class of 2008 (there are about 15 more rows of seating that I couldnt fit into the picture)..

D...He can smile. :D

In the second picture, the one of him coming down the stairs, I think I spy a smile on his face.

Please tell him "Congratulations" from the woman in TN.

I know you were one proud momma that day. :smile tee

Sharon--hahaha.yeah he can smile..told ya! :D
You do infact spy a slight smirk on his face in that one picture. Not sure if it was from pure relief, or if the man in the picture (on stage with back facing the camera) had said something funny to him. I'm just glad i managed to catch the moment..:)
