My uro says this is the next step for me (diet not helping, vistaril not helping) and I am having trouble finding people who were actually helped by this? Anyone?

After I had my first hydro back in 1975, I had almost two years nearly pain free. When my symptoms returned, my uro asked if I'd like to try another --- I said yes and it did the job again. I have now had something like 41 hydrodistentions and every one has helped --- I go anywhere from six months to 22 months. I had my last one last summer and am still feeling good most of the time.

It doesn't take away the symptoms entirely, but it does enough that I can function like a normal person.

You really should plan to take a few days to rest afterwards. When I was working I would schedule for a Tuesday or Wednesday and go back to work the following Monday.

I h ave had three hydros and I was virtually pain free for 6 months after the first one and 5 months the second time, the third one unfortunely was not helpful at all I found no relief at all from that one, but from what I understand that is typical. Some times they work well and sometimes they don't. Unfortunately, there is no dr in my area that will do hydros anymore they fell they are not helpful.
Hope this is helpful.

My urogyn doesn't do them and told me that they hardly do hydros anymore because so few people have theraputic value from them and they tend to become less effective with future hydros. Donna is one of the lucky ones that found something that does work for her.

The hydro did not help me actually, it made me worse. Al that being said I am happy I had it. For me see the pictures of my bladder made me take my IC dx very seriously. I am afraid if I never saw it I would have never really believed it was so bad.
