Folks, we were so excited when we announced, just ten days ago, that IC patient Brian Selby was taking a motorcycle ride across Canada to raise awareness for IC. Unfortunately, his journey has ended prematurely after he hit some black ice. Here's what his wife offered in their blog:
I am posting this for Brian as he is in the hospital in Portage La Prairie. He set out from Brandon and was heading to Winnipeg in extreme weather conditions. He was experiencing the start of hypothermia and felt it would be wise to stop to warm up. He took a turn on what looked like clear pavement, which turned out to be solid black ice. Both tires went out from under him and he went down, with his bike on top of his leg. Brian called me from the ambulance to say he felt he had a broken leg as he was in a great deal of pain. As it turned out, he has a broken tibia and fibula. He will be in the hospital for a good week and then must return home to recover. Brian is very unhappy about not finishing the ride, which was a goal for him to help make a difference and improve the Quality of Life for others. Even if the ride is over, the cause is still there and Brian would like any of you who are thinking of donating to please continue to do so. He wants to thank everyone for the support and best wishes he has received along the way, and for the continued support of the research that is so needed.
I hope you'll consider going over to his blog site and posting not only your appreciate for his efforts to raise IC awareness , but also wishes for a speedy recovery. :) Breaking not one but two bones is definitely a challenge. We certainly wish him the best!
