House fires--please read!!!!!

Received from a friend who is in the insurance property business. It is
well worth reading.

This is one of those e-mails that if you don't send it, rest assured
someone on your list will suffer for not reading it. The original
message was written by a lady whose brother and wife learned a hard
lesson this past week.

Their house burnt down.. nothing left but ashes. They have good
insurance so the house will be replaced and most of the contents. That is the good news.

However, they were sick when they found out the cause of the fire. The
insurance investigator sifted through the ashes for several hours. He
had the cause of the fire traced to th e master bathroom. He asked her
sister-in-law what she had plugged in
the bathroom. She listed the normal things....curling iron, blow dryer.
He kept saying to her, 'No, this would be something that would
disintegrate at high temperatures'. Then her sister-in-law
remembered she had a Glade Plug-In, in the bathroom.

The investigator had one of those 'Aha' moments. He said that was the
cause of the fire. He said he has seen more house fires started with
the plug-in type room fresheners than anything else. He said the
plastic they are made from is THIN. He also said that in every case
there was nothing left to prove that it even existed. When the
investigator looked in the wall plug, the two prongs left from the
plug-in were still in there.

Her sister-in-law had one of the plug-ins that had a small night light
built in it. She said she had noticed that the light would dim and then
finally go out. She would walk in to t he bathroom a few hours later,
and the light would be back on again. The investigator said that the
unit was getting too hot, and would dim and go out rather than just
blow the light bulb. Once it cooled down it would come back on. That is a warning sign

The investigator said he personally wouldn't have any type of plug in
fragrance device anywhere in his house. He has seen too many places
that have been burned down due to them.

Sandy, when I worked with an insurance company, we were sent this email with snopes.com attached to let people know that it was not true. It would always start out with this happened to a friend, etc. I have learned when I get any type of email like this. I have a ton of friends that forward this type stuff all the time. I always check snopes.com.

We fielded these calls for months since this email kept being circulated.

Really....who would make up such things as this?!?!?! This stupid thing had me running around my house looking to make sure all the glade plug ins weren't overheating! LOL Oh well, I guess we learn something every day. I fell for the one where there was something bad in lipstick too! Just call me gullible! LOL

Just check out snopes.com. It's amazing how many things have been going around for years! Remember the kids being snatched at the local Walmarts for gang initiation? That was another one going around.

About 2 or 3 years ago there was an email that started about a gang situation in my small town in which someone flashed their lights at another car and a huge fight arupted. It gave details to the time, where specifically. Made it look very real and it had alot of people worried. Even one of our friends that was a top US Marshall for TN had forwarded it to our Sunday School teacher who then forwarded it to us. Since this US Marshall's name was on it, our local police contacted him since he had forwarded it from his work, which made it look official even more. I have grown up here, so I know several of the local policemen, so I called a guy I graduated with that I knew would give me details. He said that it wasn't true and they had a trace on the email's origin and it was becoming a FBI situation. It happened to be the guy from our church (the same US Marshall) that was working on it also. They traced this email that had been forwarded for several days back to a lady. They arrested her at someone else's house while she was over there playing Bunko. And from what this guy said, she wanted to see how fast something would spread, so she made it up. She was in huge trouble!
