I wanted to share my experience as I thought it would be helpful for those who are as scared as I was. I had 2 really horrible catheter experiences in the ER so I was terrified of the same pain.

My Urologist does not use lidocaine due to the fact that the pinch the female feels is not reached by the lidocaine. He was very gentle and supportive throughout the entire procedure. I have to say, it was at most mildly painful and this was w/o lido. For me, it was slightly worse than an pap smear. The anticipation was far worse than the actual procedure.

He did find some bladder polyps and burned them off. He also said the bladder looked fine otherwise. I have been feeling better lately so I am not suspecting IC any longer. He still wants to do urodynamic testing but I think I may decline this and reschedule if the urgency/frequency returns.

PM me if you have any other questions regarding an in-office cysto. I realize everyone has different pain thresholds and if your bladder is in bad shape, I can imagine your experience would be different than mine. I just wanted to let the folks who are terrified like I was know that it was ok and worth it to get rid of the polyps before they became something worse.
