I just saw the local news and my son goes to Appalachain State in Boone, NC, up in the mountains. There was a man with a gun spotted on campus and all classes have been locked down and all night classes have been cancelled. My God what is the world coming to? We can't send our children to school anymore and know they're safe?!?!? He lives off campus in an apartment and of course I can't get in touch with him...his phone goes straight to voice mail so he's either in the music building or at work. I'm a mess.
On their website is a copy of the notice

I'm so upset...beside myself is a better way to put it. :( If you pray please do.....

I will pray
What is the world coming to? Kids killing kids. Where is the logic in that? We used to worry when they were in high school, but now this has started in colleges. I will never understand what causes such behavior!

Thank you Robin. I did finally get in touch with him and he's safe and has his girlfriend with him. This gunman was seen in HER apartment complex and then on campus. I'm so terrified they won't find this guy....what in the world is a guy doing walking around in 65 degree weather wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun on a college campus for? The whole school is on lockdown and basically I'm a basketcase. I know my son is safe, but dear LORD this is where my child goes to school....this is supposed to be a safe place where our children (ok, grown children) can go get an education, not be worried someone is going to go crazy and shoot the school up!!!!
It keeps happening all over the country and right now I 'm losing my freaking mind!!! THIS IS MY SON'S SCHOOL!!!!! They sent the local helicopter up there and keep sh owing reports every 5-10 minutes....it's a big deal...this guy is somewhere!
I never ask for prayers, and this is the wrong place for prayers, but please, for my son, his gf and their school please pray that they catch this maniac.

I found my son last night not long after I wrote the first post. The phone lines were jammed, not surprisingly, but he was locked up safe in his apartment with his gf. This is what REALLY happened and I want to kick someone's butt!
Boone Police say March 3rd incident fabricated
The Boone Police Department has issued the following statement:
Last evening's reported break in by a fleeing armed suspect that led to a campus-wide lockdown has been resolved.
The victim was interviewed this morning by Boone Police Investigators and admitted that the incident as reported was fabricated. No armed or masked suspect was involved at any incident at the victim address. Subsequent witness sightings of an unarmed and unmasked man who matched the physical description given are now known to have been unnecessary and unrelated.
A misdemeanor false police report charge is anticipated, but has not yet been filed.

This is insane! A false report regarding something as serious as this needs to be a felony!

That's what I thought. He inconvenienced who knows how many lives yesterday, cancelled classes, locked down classrooms with students and teachers that were stuck there for over 2 1/2 hours!!! And all this kid gets is a slap on the stinking wrist? I'm not satisfied with that and I'm quite sure all the parent's who went through what I did yesterday would tend to agree with me!!!

Sandy,
I'm glad your son is o.k. I had to double check which college he attends because it was in our local news that the president of Chapel Hill's student body was murdered. It really is sad that we have to worry about our children in school when it should be the safest place to be, second to their own homes.

I heard about Chapel Hill and that is so sad. There is another girl that was shot in Alabama, I have forgotten what college she went to, and he car was set on fire! What is this world coming to? I just can't get over kids playing pranks that cause a huge uproar and terrify parents, people killing beautiful, outstanding female students.....it's terrible and it's awfully scary to send your kids to college these days! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't worry.
Thanks for the support, I certainly needed it these past few days!
