I've been doing instillations at home for a few months now. The lubricant I have been using on the cath is the kind that comes in individual packets. To be honest, when I ran out of the ones I got from my uro, I would take some from work:ignore: Well, I decided that was not a good thing (I feel bad even admitting it) and that I should buy a tube. I looked in the drug stores but they didn't have they same stuff, so I asked the pharmacist if KY was the same and he said yet. Well I got some and the consistency is totally different. It is thick and gloppy. It doesn't have that smooth gliding like consistency. So now I don't know if it's even ok to use. Do other people use KY for their catheters?

I'm thinking the stuff you got from your Dr. was more than likely a Urojet. It is in a white package that you peel open and has with a syringe that you have to pop off two yellow caps and screw it together and put it in your urethra? Its clear liquid. am I correct? If not, then I have no clue...But my Dr gives me these and says they are almost like KY jelly but now as "goopy". Hope this helps.

No, it is called surgilube. I'm a nurse and we use it for caths, rectal thermometers, suppositories......the phamacist said the KY should be ok, but it is a totally different consistency. Makes me think it is not the same after all. I'm thinking maybe I should just check online at a medical supply place. Thanks for your reply, though!

HI,
The lubricant I use for instills is MUKO -it comes in a box with 100 individual packets of it. I use 1 or 2 when I do the instills. You can buy it at a store that sells medical supplies. They don't likely have it a your pharmacy. It is not costly.
I find that there is less likely to be contamination using individual packets than using something in a tube like KY jelly.

I don't do instills but theres a lubricant out there that doesn't have many ingredients and so it would probably be good to use in this case....
its called Slippery Stuff and it can be a liquid or a gel whichever you like....
Its really good for sensitive people so i bet it would be good for the urethra..
just thought to let ya know...
take care
i hope you find something good soon....
hugs n better body days
:hi:
