View Full Version : Membership Warehouses
I am considering joinging one again for several reasons and I have a question.
The two in my area are Sam's & Costco.
I have been a member at Sam's before but have never been in a Costco.
The Costco would be the closest one to me though at 19 miles, pretty much all highway miles a pretty fast trip.
Here is my question. I would be using it mainly for office supplies and seeds(sunflower), nuts, and maybe some fruits & veggies. How do the two stores compare?

We are members of both. I like Costco produce much better than Sam's. Their meat is much better, also.
If I were you and trying to decide on only one, I would pay a visit to both and decide once you have seen both. They do allow you to do that. You just let the person checking for membership cards know that is what you are doing. You can't buy anything, though.
Hint: Go around noon and try the samples that are usually available at that time. Great way to visit and have lunch, also. :)

We don't have a Sams, but I do like Costco. We spend the extra to get the executive membership and the rebate pays for our membership.

Since I am a business owner, have my sales tax license number, I think I would qualify also for the business membership. I just wondered what everyone felt about them.
Costco would by far be the easiest and quickest one for me to go to.

We did the business one too --- all we needed was to show them a business card and stationery. Then we upgraded to see if the discount would help --- and it did.

We belong to both (my brother in law pays for SAM's as its a business expense) and we pay for the Costco. I like costco the best. As to the one that you choose, sometimes the stores will have a "open membership day' where even though you are not a member you can still buy stuff and let them know that you are trying them out.--usually this is annouced in the business section of the newspaper-that is how we found out about Costco.

We have Costco, Sams and BJ's all within just a few miles of where I live. I personally prefer Sam's.
I agree that the best thing to do is pay them each a visit (get a guest pass at the customer service desk) and decide for yourself. All the ones in my area allow shopping on a guest pass though they charge a service fee; that fee is waived if membership is purchased at check-out, or put towards your membership fee if membership is purchased within an allotted time frame of guest visit.
Enjoy your visits!

Sure, visit both (assuming you're up to it) but Costco is the best! I've found the best time to go is around 5 pm, when people head home to start dinner, and it's almost empty.
