Ihad my second "cocktail" this morning and am feeling great. I've noticed several people were able to do home instills. How do you manage to catheterize yourself? It would be so much more convenient if I could. Also, I did mention to my Dr. that I couldn't pee for 8 hours after last treatment. She wasn't concerned as long as I was not uncomfortable. Today I went a bit after 4 hours, and nothing since but I'm not worried.

Some Dr's approve of patients doing instills at home while others are against it.
If you're interested in doing yours at home (more convenient and cheaper) just inform your Dr. If s/he agrees that its OK, either your Dr or the nurse will instruct you on to how to cath yourself and administer the instill.
Also, if this is something you're seriously considering, check with your prescribing pharmacy first to make sure they have access to the different meds that make up the instill.
I'm sure others will be chiming in here with their personal experiences.
Wishing you well...

Talk with your MD and tell the doc you want to learn to cath yourself. The nursing staff in the office can show you how with a mirror and lots of lubricant. Before you take off to home though a few things I have learned- 1. check with your pharmacy re: do they stock the meds and if not how long to order? 2. check your insurance to see if they cover these meds ,if not see if you can get it under medical supplies some companies will cover the meds and caths that way otherwise the meds can be a bit pricey.3. Make sure you have all supplies including a hand mirror of sorts and lots of lubricant or lidocaine jelly to help with insertion. I do home instillations and have for a little over year now, I am thankful I have not been locked into a MD visit to perform this procedure. I am sure you will do fine just make sure your all your supplies before you proceed. love and IC hugs
