i saw on another post here that someone had anger issues on elavil.....
i was wondering about that since i seem to be having mood swings ever since i bumped it up to 50 mgs from 40......I have found it helps with some of the pain i have with IC and other issues that are 'unknown' even though i have had every test under the sun....but thats my official diagnosis
Anyway just wondering if anyone else had that---> anger issues and mood swings....:confused:
now the embarrassing question----it seems also that ever since i bumped it up i seem to have an 'overactive' clit.....like all the blood going there all the time and i am aware of it all the time :confused::confused:
I don't understand it.....
before i was on elavil i was aware of my urethra ALL the time and now i don't have that but i have the clit thing......:confused:
i just wondered if anyone has had any of these experiences on elavil.....
and of course i just refilled the prescription :rant::rolleyes:
thank you for reading......
sorry that its weird but just wondering......
take great care

the thing that i love about elavil though is that it actually makes the painkillers work.....instead of me popping A LOT of pills i just pop the right amount and it at least takes the edge off....
so would like to know if anyone experienced anything like that i described above and if they just switched to say nortriptyline and it was fine....
:confused::confused:
thank you

Hi Stef - I also take 50mg of elavil and I have not noticed any mood swings. I actually think that it helps my anxiety (even though it is a lower dose than would be prescribed to treat depression). As far as the overactive clitoris, I sometimes experience that as a symptom of my IC - so possibly it could just be your IC acting up. For me, I don't think that this symptom in due to the Elavil because it was worse before the Elavil - now my clitoris rarely has that overactive feeling. Maybe some others will chime in with their experience. I hope that you are feeling better soon. Linda

Humm sounds like Elavil is working just the opposite for you as it does for most ICers.

But I have heard it can cause some mood swings, But as far as the clit thing. Elavil is what made all that kind of sensations go away for me when I was on it. But if you are having any kind of problems with this medicine or side effect. I really think you need to contact your Dr and discuss this with him/her.

Yeah i think since the sensation of the urethra is gone towards the external region which is around the clit so thats probably what it is....
man i feel so uncomfortable and all icky and i ate too much(one full meal)
and now i am suffering the consequences---bloating, nausea all that fun stuff.....
man i hate being a woman sometimes.....sure we have cool shoes and we can get all prettied up (even though 99% we can't since we are dealing with pain issues or other issues)
and also i have stomach motility issues these days---going to get a scope done.......and sure i feel 'better' not eating but food is life for me---i am a foody and i just love food so i cannot not eat it....
anyway just all icky and moody and stuff.....:evilsmile:rant::confused::loco:
thank you for your response though....

i think i am having weird sensations now more than before is because of the retention i get from the elavil but that retention helps me sleep through the night instead of getting up all the time.....
man this disease and other problems are too much sometimes....:loco:
i hate it :rant::bonk::toilet:
thank you though

Were you having problems when you were at 40mg? Did that level help you at all? Talk with your doctor about this and see what he/she says. Don't be embarrassed to discuss this. They have seen and heard it all.

yeah i just felt that 40 mgs wasn't enough so thats why i bumped it....
I am seeing my doc in a couple days and i have e-mailed my gyne since i have weird painful pressure on the lower left in the pelvic region too...
:loco::bonk::rant:
yeah all kind of weird stuff going on :loco:
I don't know what is causing what anymore---malnourishment (stomach motility issues---getting a scope done for my tummy on the 28th) or effects of bumping dosages up or withdrawals from other drugs or what.....
I don't know.....:loco::rolleyes::rant:
but thank you all for your responses its just nice to ask some women ya know?
I am not too embarrassed to ask these to my doc but i figured to post the questions before i did see my doc.....
after being probed in every orifice and inside and all that nothing embarrasses me anymore....:evilsmile
well sometimes i feel embarrassed asking it for the first time but once thats over with then i can just blurt it out....:rant:
anyway thank you all
i will see what comes of it...

Hi Stef - I just wanted to mention that the retention that you are experiencing from the 50mg Elavil might decrease once you have been on it for a while (mine did - but I can't remember how long it took) - if you and your doctor decide to try the 50mg for a while longer. When I tried increasing to 75 mg, I had problems with retention and decided to go back down to 50. I hope that you will be feeling better soon. Linda

thank you all for all your help....
yeah i just have to get the right combo of things....
i want to apologize for the way i might have acted on here before since last week i realized i weaned off of effexor too quickly and i had been going through withdrawals.....:loco:
made me crazy :bunny::bonk::lmao:
so i am sorry about that....
yeah i will figure out the elavil amount.....i mostly fiddle around with the dosages since the doc just said that i probably know it more than he does...well i research it a lot and i know your not supposed to up it or down it in less than 4 days...recommend more than that but yeah.....
i just have to find the sweet spot where everything is working well and no harsh effects or withdrawals.....:loco:
thank you all.....
yeah it seems i have a rash "down there" now----weird though since i haven't been using anything different and i have a long term partner so its just so so very strange.....but what else is new???:confused: I was born with a twisted back, only one ovary, three kidneys and a third nipple....
so go figure that somethin would be weird with my body :lmao:
hope all are having a wonderful evening...

I was on elavil for a very long time, it was not the best med for me (I was on it also to help the pain meds work and to help a specific neurotransmitter) and my doc switched me to nortryptiline instead (sp?). I am not sure my mood swings were from the elavil, but the methadone has definitely caused those and I have anger issues at times with it. But, I've been told that most people with chronic pain do. No excuses from me, but it is the answer I was given when I was asked why I went off of a med that helped because of how it affected my mood. Needless to say, I am back on the methadone.
