I am scheduled to have surgery for a paraesophageal hernia (laproscopic) in about 10 days and I am worried about my bladder's reaction. My pain management doc will consult with my surgeon on post-surgical pain control. My bladder has a reaction to the iv meds given for my endoscopies(as well as to meds given for sinus infection or just having a cold, etc) so I am really worried about it's reaction to the general anethesia. The dr's nurse mentioned something about the Pain Buster pump that pumps local anesthetic to the surgical site which sounds great. But my bladder pain might rear it's ugly head and I am wondering what they might give to help me with that.

Has anyone else here got any advice/historical info on IC patients who have surgery and what works best for post surgical pain. Just for info I am 46, was diagnosed 7 years ago and my severe pain is controlled with Methadone (20 mg 5xday) and Actiq (fentanyl) for breakthrough pain so I have an idea that even with the anesthetic going to the surgical site my bladder is going to have a reaction to the iv meds. Anyone have any experience?

I have had numerous surgeries, and have never had this experience.. the dr's have always given me demerol post surgery.. .. my bladder is always a mess, so I haven't noticed surgery making it much worse unless a catheter is involved. then I omg.. the pain is aweful..

I wish I new what ot say to help.. good luck on your surgery
