I was wondering about the sleepiness. I took 25 mgs last ight before I went to bed I took it at 11:45 and was really sleeping in my activities all day. you have heard of people sleeping w/ their eyes open well that was me today. So I called a pharmacy and asked if i could cut the pill in half and they said yes so I took it at 8:10 tonight hoping that I won't be as sleepy tomorrow. I don't know if i will be able to take this drug or not i have a 5 yro little boy. If I am too sleepy tomorrow I might try taking and cutting the pill into fourths. I already take topamax and that w/ it is extra sleep. I have ate all day today it is like I can't get full. Anyone have any suggestions to an alternative medicine. I can't afford to gain any wght I could be type II diabetic. Us Icers can't win for losing.

Please someone tell me if their is an alternative medicine I can take. I have taken elavil along time ago but i can't remember being this sleepy taking it. It might be the topamax along with it. I don't know.

It's good that you took it earlier tonight. I have been off of it on on it for years. When I first start on it, I always take it earlier in the evening. Within a few days, my body adjusts, but my body is weird in the way it handles meds. I can take 50 mgs now and not even get sleepy. I can't take Topamax at all. It didn't make me sleepy at all, which was one of the intentions since I had such bad nerve pain at night, but I had other side effects that prevented me from taking it. Maybe you can try the Nortrytyline (spelling). It's not supposed to make you crave sweets as much.

It's a lot of work to get the meds tweaked just right. Keep records of all your meds and when you take them and the side effects. That was a big help to me.

Coopsmom,
I have been taking Elmiron since November of 2005. I could not take Elavil because I was antidepressants at the time and could not mix the two. It would make sense that you would gain weight and have the sleepiness considering Elavil is technically an antidepressant, and almost all antidepressants have these reactions. Elmiron has helped me tremendously and now that I am off antidepressants I am considering Elavil only because I cannot stand the frequency and urgency I get, especially at night. Elmiron has cut down so much on my flares. I used to have flares probably once a week and relaly bad ones once a month. I am down to have a mild flare maybe every month and a more severe one every few and they only last one day. If you can take it, I would definately try it!!!
