Ive been having more and more frequency lately and its especially disconcerning at night. Usually, I have gone 1-2 times at night within 8 hours but last night I went 3 times even though I made sure I didnt drink anything for 2 hours before bed. I went to see my dr. about 3 weeks ago and he gave me 2 samples of Detrol LA and Vistaril. Both samples were 2 weeks-worth. I tried the Vistaril first and really didnt notice an improvement. Does Vistaril help with frequency, and if so, when should I expect some decent results, since I didnt notice any after 2?
I just started the Detrol LA a few days ago and i think its making the frequency worse. Is that possible? I also feel like I cant get all of it out and have to push which isnt good. Can Detrol LA really have an opposite effect on me?
Im wondering if there's anything else out there I can try for frequency whether it'd be a RX or over the counter? Or other treatment?
Im only 26 which frustrates me even more that Im going through this at a young age.
Any suggestions or answers would be nice.
Thank you :smile tee

I know for me Vistaril helped fairly quickly, but since it's an antihistamine I believe it's one of those the longer your on the better the therapy. I know I've read in an article here that one of the doc's recommends to be on at leat 3 months.
Here's the link to the article:

And here's the excerpt from it:
<icnmgrjill> You've also championed the use of hydroxyzine with or without Elmiron. Can you tell us more about your recent observations??
<drparsons> For years now, I've had both drugs and used them extensively in several thousand patients. I would simply summarize by saying that Elmiron is the cornerstone to rebuild the bladder surface but allergies are frequently what is breaking it down and you need hydroxyzine for that. Give me hydroxyzine and Elmiron and I can make 90% of my patients better and keep them better. At least 70% of patients need both medications and they will always need both.
Most of my patients tend to stop the Atarax but they will pay a price if they flare during the allergy. They will take three months to really improve again. One bad allergy flare and they usually listen to me. You only need a low dose hydroxyzine.. 25 mgs at bedtime. I think that it is far more important than Elavil.
As for the Detrol LA, I do know that I have read that some have problems with retention with some of the OAB meds. I took Ditropan 3x's a day and I had no problems. If you feel like you are retaining, you definitely need to let your doc know as soon as possible - maybe there is one of that type that would be better for you etc ;)
Hope this helps a little bit! :)

Thank you for your reply :)
Do you have any retention on Vistaril? What dosage are you on?
I made an appt. with another Dr. scheduled in 1 1/2 weeks. Hopefully he has more insight also.

Nope I had no troubles with retention from the Vistaril at all :) I usually take 25 mgs at bedtime, well, more like 7pm so I can wake up the next morning without a serious case of the drowsies, lol. If I take it too late, I am doomed, lmao!!! :biglaugh:
