Is anyone doing Free Rice? It's a website (www.freerice.com). It's a .com bc. it's advertiser supported, but it's a charitable endeavor. There are millions of people all over North America going to this site and taking the vocabulary quizzes. The cool thing is that for every word you get right, they donate 20 grains of rice to the U.N.
They do a short pre-test to determine your level, then feed you words that should challenge you but not kill you. The longer you play, the more rice you can donate.
This program is highly successful and tons of rice have already been shipped out to needy areas around the world.
So if you're looking for a way to volunteer or contribute somehow, why not try it? I try to donate 2000 grains of rice per day. It's not a lot when you think about it, but then when so many others are doing it too, it really adds up to something meaningful.
And, we got our teenager interested in the charitable angle -- she hasn't even noticed how many SAT words she's learning, LOL. :)
