View Full Version : Would I qualify for Cytotec?

Pending the outcome of our visit with the new uro - and a verified dx of IC - what are the conditions for trying Cytotec? Before I began pursuing IC, my gyno had me on Naproxen several times a day - which was great - it really helped with the pain, and didn't affect me otherwise, but then my gastroenterologist found a gastric ulcer. I'm interested in Cytotec because it seems like it would be able to replace my ulcer medication, potentially help with the IC pain (since I don't have much of the frequency/urgency issue), and maybe even allow me to take NSAIDs, again. :woohoo:

Would it be worth trying before drugs like Elmiron - which have a rather long period before relief can show? :help: I'm really hesitant to do instillations, because of the pain from catheters, and if I'd see whether or not Cytotec could help in a reasonable time frame (couple weeks verses 6-12 months) - would it be worth trying? Doesn't hurt that the generic (misoprostol) is only $10, whereas Elmiron is $30.

Thanks! :bunny:

I don't have any experience with this. The best thing to do is ask your doctor the next time you have an appointment.

Have you read the posts from the members who have taken this? If not, you can do a Search to find these posts. The link to the "Search" Box is in the dark blue tool bar above between "New Posts" and "Quick Links". Type in Cytotec. Click on "Posts". I did it and there are four pages of past posts.

I tried Cystotec for a short time per my doctor's suggestio. Didn't help me nor did Elmiron. We are all different, so it's pretty much trial and error.

Just wanted to let you know, Michelle that my doctor at the Cleveland Clinic told me ANY NSAID's had to be stopped immediately because like they hurt and aggravate stomach ulcers, they hurt and exacerbate bladder ulcerations or glomurelations. So he said no more ibuprofen or aspirin containing products. This is a hard habit to break for me because I used up to 800mg of Advil or Motrin while working during the day. But since no one answered, I really wanted to let you know.

We have an appointment this Wednesday morning with the uro since the dx came down this morning. I've got a full-copy of the misoprostol/Cytotec study, so I'm going to bring it along and see what she says. It'd be great if Michelle could just take one or two meds instead of the five shes on now plus a few more.

Yes, dr. Rackley at the CC says absolutely no NSAIDS. I have taken cytotec orally and it really made me quite sick at my stomach. I now instill it in my bladder 200mgs per day. I don't get sick at my stomach this way. But I do get chilled to the bone using it this way. But who knows we are all so different. It really wouldn't hurt to try. I think I'd start with a low dose and work up to whatever your dr. recommends. And I do believe it does take a while too to see if it is working.

Well, if you decide to try it I praY IT WORKS FOR YOU!

God Bless.
