Can it get any worse? I have horrible IC and now my son may have it also. He's been having extremely frequent urination - 30-40 times a day. I took him to our GP today for a cold and had them check his urine - positive for blood. They are trying to get him in to see the Uro tomorrow. I seriously need some prayers. I don't want my baby to have this horrible disease and go through all the suffering that I did. Does anyone know of anything else that could cause him to have blood in the urine? He also complains of a stomach ache below his belly button.

We are the only people in the whole world that would say this...I hope it is a bladder infection. That could cause blood in the urine.

That would be awful if he did have IC at such an extremely young age, I feel very badly for you and like the others said I hope it just a UTI!:pray:

I took my son to the Uro today. He still had a small amount of blood in his urine. The dr. asked if by any chance he had strep throat. Well, he does have strep throat right now. For some reason, when little boys get strep, a small amount of blood gets into the kidneys and comes out in the urine. They did an ultrasound just to be sure and all looks good. So that's the good news, the bad news is that he has to have a urethral dilation because his opening is too small. I guess, if anything, it's better than IC.

I am so glad IC in a 5 year old would make me cry. Continued prayers for his recovery!

I was terrified once that my son had ic as well because he started complaining of pain with urination. Apparently, it's not uncommon for kids to have viral utis. He was better after a couple of days, but boy, it was scary. I'm so glad that he's ok!

My younger son complained about having to go to the bathroom several times and felt he couldn't finish peeing. Thank goodness, IC never occurred to me. That would be a scary thought, but he had only complained during that day and really didn't want to go to sleep. We took him to the minor med and he had a bladder infection. The doctor told us it wasn't common for boys to have infections so if he had another one, we should take him to a uro. I definitely had a great uro back then, but it was just the one time event. I don't remember if he was running a fever, but its been over 10 years ago. He had to take antibiotics which was not an easy task. My younger son was never big on taking meds. Way too many ear infections in his childhood!
Glad your son is okay!
