I think it sounds like time to get a second opinion. There are many treatment options for IC.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, and not getting the support you need from your doctor!! Soooo many things you read on pain by pain experts say a person should not have to live in pain. He obviously has no idea what IC pain is like!
I completely agree with Donna, I think it's time to get another opinion and find a doctor who understands and is supportive!

This is an article published on the ICN. Take a look at it and see if it might be worth printing and taking to your doctor.

You can find other very good articles here:

It really upsets me when a urologist does not want to continue to try to find the right med/treatment. Do you have an obgyn on your insurance? Sometimes they can be more help that a urologist. Maybe even your PCP could be more help to you.

There are many doctors who will accept payment plans. Just be sure to ask before your first appointment.

I agree with everyone. I would get a second opintion and I would call around and see who takes payment plans. Don't give up, there are some good docs out there! I know you are probably very frustrated and feel like your pain isn't being aknowledged. I am so sorry your going through this. I hope you can find a doc that has a payment plan and will help you.

I feel so bad for you because I know how you feel right now. I am 10 weeks pregnant and can't really take much for the pain, so I want to just dig myself into a hole. Before I got pregnant my doctors always gave me grief about pain meds, but they were the ones who kept prescribing them in the first place. I never asked for them. It's so frustrating when they say they don't want you to get addicted. When I take pain meds, I feel normal and can actually get through my day. I don't get high from them. Until my OB did my laparoscopy (I have endometriosis) and my Uro did a cysto at the same time, my OB did not understand. Once he saw the condition of my bladder, he finally "got it". I think that they really just don't know what to do with us sometimes and it's frustrating for them.
Is there a charity hospital system in your area? We have one here (Louisiana) that charges based on income. People who don't make enough money are on Free Care. There are clinics on the hospital grounds with Uros, OBs, etc. You may also want to try your local civic organizations. Sometimes they are able to help with money, even if it's just a little bit. I'll keep you in my prayers.
