ok, so I am going to a new specialist tomorrow... dont know what he is going to want to do or where he is going to want to look... but was just curious
For those of you out there who shave... do you shave completely even before the dr or do you let grow some?? i just dont know what they expect to see and what they think is weird....

I think they've probably seen it all. I can't shave anymore down below because it aggrevates my VV. Even before I was diagnoised with VV I never did anything special before going to the dr other than the usual showering and makng sure I was really clean. When I used to shave I would find I would itch afterwards which I'm sure would make things irritated which wouldn't be good. Honestly, I would just do what you normally do to make yourself clean. Imagine how many women these dr's have looked at, I'm sure they've seen everything from completely shaved to never ever shaved.

They have seen everything so many times that I think they really forget that they are looking at a very private area to a woman. If you are concerned about cleanliness, ask the nurse if you can have one of the wipes that they use for clean catches. Then ask to use the restroom and freshen up. I hope the appointment goes well. :)

The only time I have ever had my perineal area shaved was for a surgery and the grow out process was horrible. I just take a shower and make sure I am clean all over when I see my doctor.

This is not something to worry about. Take a shower, that's it. No prep necessary.

I was an OB/GYN nurse in a hospital before IC hit my life and I can tell you from experience that doctors and nurses have seen it all!! I do mean all...everything from shaved, to not shaved, to tattoos in odd areas (yes, I mean THERE), just everything. You do NOT need to do anything different at all. Just shower, this is something I MUST do before going to the doctor, I HAVE to shower...as for the rest of it, it doesn't matter. They aren't looking at your grooming habits, they are looking there diagnostically, and that's it, I promise you!!

I always had the same thoughts.....always tried to schedule annual exams, etc. right after I got my goodies waxed so it would look nice down there...and I always felt cleaner with nothing. But ever since I got pg and then sick and have drs look at it at all stages...from just getting waxed to 3 week growth, now I don't really care.....and you shouldn't either. They don't care, why should you?

I love this question as we all think about how they look at us and how we want to be clean, shave our legs, and groom up a little. So thanks for being brave and asking. I was alway so nervous about childbirth and wanting to be nice and groomed for it all and it all happened so fast I was devastated I didn't get to do that. So like the others have said...they have seen it ALL. I would just do what you are comfortable with.
