I am on MS Contin 15mg bid. Thing is my pain MD does not understand IC flares. Both the Pain Rn and the pain MD told me they don't have that many IC patients in their clinic. So, do some reading read up on it. My psychologist knows . He had 5 pt's with IC and he told me he does reading.

Mr Conservative pain MD won't give me anything for breakthough. I tell him I am in a flare up urinating every hour. I awake in pain and have to get up to urinate. I can take my MS pill and four hours later I am in flare and I have nothing to take. He told me to take Tylenol. RIGht.

I did try ultram ER that he gave me to trial. It did help however ; my face got red and I itched all over even in my scalp.
He said the only thing we could try would be Duragesic patch NO I don't want a patch and my uro doesnt' want me on one.

I even asked if he would increase my nightime dose to 30mg to help with the pain and sleep. He said I am not going to give you narcotics to help you sleep. I said I can't sleep because I am in pain. I had to give up my job due to this pain.

I talked in therapy that day with my pain pscychologist. He is going to intervene and go talk to the pain md about me pain level and the breakthough pain. As I said before this pain md was an attorney before a pain MD and that;s how he thinks first.

The nurses told me I could go to the PA and try. No I told them both I don't like him and I don't. He told me he knows very little about IC. He is arrogant and treats me different. I believe he is intimitaded by my being an RN and that I worked alongside with the anesthesiologist gor 22 years. If I have to back to the PA I am done there goodbye.

I hope Dr. Lazar can help me by talking to pain md.

SO after all that the question is what do you take for breakthrough pain with MS Contin please reply so I can maybe print some of the posts and show him see other people with IC have MS and breakthrough pain.

Thankyou

Vicky

I take Norco 10/325 mg 3 X a day for breakthrough w/ my MS Contin 15 mg. Unfortunately the Norco works better than the ms contin. The ms contin does nothing for the pain and only works like 10% better than nothing and works a little bit with the Norco. My pain Dr does not understand this and she has actually said to me that because I will have this condition the rest of my life I should just deal with it and come off all meds. Nice, right? So I am looking for another pain Dr. I am supposed to take ms contin 3x day and Norco 3X for breakthrough but the norco is needed all day because the ms contin does not work. But I do not have enough Norco so I am screwed most of the time suffering. This sucks! Why can`t these Drs understand how bad this pain is and how much it ruins our lives?

Beautiful cakes. Wow. I have taken Percocet, Oxy IR, and Norco at varying times. I also have taken additional meds for spasms, nausea, and sleep. Good luck.

Problem is Barb RN is that my pain md doesn't want to give me anymore narcotics. Give me a break 15mg MS contin bid. I am in a flare having breakthrough bleeding on my birth control pill. My pain is 8/10. Just like it was when I was working. I have NOTHING to take for breakthrough. He said take Tylenol. They also told me they don't have many IC pt's at their clinic. He mumbled IC complex. My psychologist is going to talk to him. The pain MD lady ologist I had her sister had IC so she understood it. She gave me oxycodone for relief. She quit the clinic. I have mr. conservative pain I was an attorney before and Md or that PA> THe PA already told me he knows very little about IC. Plus, him and I did not hit it off. I don't think he liked the fact I was an RN and knew more about the dx. then him. He came across to me very arrogant and a wanna be md who could not get into med school.
There is one other pain clinic in town. I don't want to go there and they think I am drug seeking for breakthrough meds. I worked with these ologist for 22 years I feel loyal to their clinic......... not anymore if I am going to have to live in pain. He knows and I told him I had to quit work because of the pain.
Hoping my therapist Dr. Lazar can help with his intervention. Thanks for your reply Barb RN. No one should have to go without breakthrough meds that is on long acting 12 hours or etc........................ Vicky

Barb the pain md had his Rn call me today he won;t give me any short acting opiates for the breakthrough pain. So, my therapist is going to talk with him. So. I have to suffer with IC flares. She said we don't have many IC pt's at our clinic. No that's why I drove 2 hours plus to U of MI. So. she said maybe he would increase my MS dose or frequency. He told me he did not have to see me for 60 days. So, I am in pain with a flare. I hope but I doubt my therapist will get through to him about my pain and quality of life. This pain anesthesiologist was an attorney before an ologist........ and that is exactly how he thinks when he orders things or answer medical questions.
My former lady pain MD gave me oxy IR - she quit the clinic.... my loss.
I took some motrin as I was taking too many aleve. Then I read these posts motrin causes Ic flares. Well, I am in pain so I am not taking anymore. Makes me angry. I lost my job and career to IC so now I should not have to suffer from a flare after 22 years now is the time when I am on disability to help the pain. Thanks for listenting. Oxycodone 5mg IR at first I did not like it - too strong and made me feel weird. Then it just started helping and the weirdness went away.......... Vicky RN
