I found a web site where people wrote in their experiences with cymbalta. none were good. Now I'm wondering if I should still keep trying it after just one day? Most said it helped them the first few weeks (really has helped me with depression/axiety with just one pill) but then they turned into zombies and trying to get of was horrid withdrawl. Now I'm wondering if the stomach ache from it is no big deal. had that with the elmiron. They did say the cymbalta comes in 10 mgs so maybe I can have doc drop it to that instead of the 30 mgs. Has anyone had a hard time getting off of it? I went through part withdrawl from the vicoden which was not fun at all so now I'm worried about this pill. :help:

Mary, if you do a little research you'll find that every medication has the potential for side effects, some more serious than others. Even the common aspirin or tylenol can have side effects.
If you have real concerns about any medication, the best advice I can think of is to talk it over with your doctor, especially if you think it may be helping you.
Sending warm hugs,
Donna

All medications have side effects. You have no idea if this will truly affect you poorly or not until you really give it a try. Some side effects go away in time.
A lot of people are helped by Cymbalta with no adverse affects, or very little. I will admit that I personally did not have any benefit, but I know of people it has helped and would not have a blanket recommendation not to try it. I will say though, it is notorious for being hard to get off of. I have been on many antidepressants and never had a problem, so didn't think I'd have a problem, but it really was difficult for me. I did taper the dose, but it probably would have been easier if I had tapered more slowly. If you decide to keep taking it, and ever need to go off of it, insist on tapering very slowly.
I wish you good luck. Share your concerns with your physician, but keep in mind that medications affect different people in different ways. I hope thsi will help you!

I've had a really good experience with cymbalta so far. I started on it about 2 months ago. I started on 30 mg/ day and went up to 30 mg twice a day. It's really helped me with my depression. I haven't turned into a zobmie or anything--I feel like I'm back to my former self. And, contrary to most, my sex drive has actually gone up since I started it. I did have some side effects when I first started--nausea & constipation, mostly, but those went away as my body got used to it.
Of course, I've started it not too long ago. And I certainly haven't gone off of it. I have heard the same terrible things about coming off it. However, if I feel this much better, it's worth it.
It comes in 20, 30 and 60 mg pills. Sorry, no 10mg.
Good luck!

waterflow,
Remember, a lot of times you hear from folks who have problems from meds....not the ones who are doing great and living their lives. So, take what you read ith a grain of salt and if you have concerns talk to your doctor.

I get so worried about taking new pills since I have bad reactions from most. I do tend to go over board when I read the bad stories don't I? :loco: Didn't take one yesterday since my stomach hurt so much and I went down to doom and gloom feeling like crying by afternoon. I got up at 7:00 am yesterday without having to drop out of bed. Just got up and started my day. Haven't done that since the IC started 10 years ago! This morning I forced myself up at 8:00 am. going to try taking another one this afternoon and see how my stomach does. It's just that one side effect that is hard to deal with. Hey, I lost 1 pound in just those two days so that isn't too bad.
Thanks Mystereyes for posting your good forturne with it. That sure helps me.
Thanks again for the help everyone. Will talk to my uro about it too on Thursday for the 20 mgs.

Hey girly! And don't forget sometimes when you start a med, and you do experience some of the side-effects - that your body adjusts to them in a bit of time ;) I know for me, if there's a side effect out there, I'll have it, ha ha, but 9 times out of 10 - they disappear as my body gets used to the medication. Very rarely does it keep up so badly I have had to stop taking something. :) I loved Paxil, but I couldn't get past the sleepys - and I gave it like a good 3 month run, hee heee. So, that's when I went to just straight Wellbutrin SR instead of the 2 combined. :)
I think at one time or another, we've all talked ourselves into some side-effect or another, I know I have. But like the pamphlets with them say - your doc has weighed them against the help you could get from the medication etc etc etc. And like you said - maybe you're one who might do better starting in the lower dose ranges and going from there. Glad to see you get a chance to chat it up with the doc soon!! Keep us posted!!!
Big HUGS!!!

I had a hard time getting of the cymbalta. It was Christmas and I ran out and wanted to quit (from my constipation) I was on 75mg for depression and I went through some pretty rough withdrawl. I kept crying and yelling, I felt so bad for my family that day. If you do quit, definitely taper and tell your physician before doing so. I regret not doing that myself.
All medications work differently for everyone so if it works don't let anyone scare you, they all have some bad side effects.
