I wanted to share my success with an herb I started taking for infertility that has had a surprising yet welcome effect on my IC.
I started taking vitex before to try and help me get pregnant. It did help with that but unfortuantly all 3 times ended in miscarriage. ( I am seeing a specialist at the end of this month to see why) I finally can to realize that the whole time I was taking the vitex I had hardly any flares and if I did they were mild and only lasted for a few hours. I stopped the vitex because I was afriad to get pregnant again for fear of a miscarriage. As soon as I did the flare scame back horrible. I started my vitex again last month and have been better about the flares, I only had one and it was food related. Vitex can be found at GNC. I don't know if it will help anyone else but I thought I would share. I have tried other herbs and vitamins with no success. Plus this stuff has no potential side effects.

Hope this helps some one too,
God Bless,
Melissa

That is really interesting. I might give it a try. How does it help you get pregnant? What does it do? At this point in my life pregnant would be a bad side effect.

I did a google search on Vitex and found an article that included this sentence.

It works by stimulating and normalizing the pituitary gland, which regulates the balance of estrogen and progesterone in the body.

As always, you need to speak with your doctor before you go on any herbal treatment. There are some herbs that can work against other medications and other herbs. You need to be very careful and not self-medicate.

I took vitex for a long time because of terrible menstrual pain and it helped very much. regarding miscarriages - I suffered from the same problem. I was finally sent for ANA tests and one came back positive - for lupus anticoagulant factor. My ultrasounds showed blood clots forming behind the placenta which pushed the placenta away, and caused bleeding. Sometimes just taking a low dose of aspirin can really help. It might be worth finding out if this is your problem. Don't do anything without a knowledgable doctor's care. Good Luck!

I am already on a baby aspirin. I have seen a speacialist since I have posted on here. No blood clotting disorders. I have had chromosome testing done on both of us(hubby too) waiting on the results for that. Hopefully that is not the problem. I still have Faith it will happen for us in God's time :)

The vitex helps regulate your hormones which helps with pms and fertility problems. I have noticed I got the worst flares when it was almost time for my period. So I guess that is why it helps me. I still have to watch my diet but at least I have some relief.
