So my first instill went fine, but I'm having a lot of trouble urinating. I know I have to go but only a few drops are coming out and it's REALLY hard to get it started. I think it might be because my urethera is swollen.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?? I have a catheter, so I can catheterize myself if I have to, but I should be able to pee on my own!

I was so pleased with how well the instill went, and now I'm just very confused and scared. :(

I have not had this problem. I don't need to go to the bathroom for a long time after instills..sometimes 4 hours and most of the time after an instill I don't wake up at night to go to the bathroom.

Please don't strain --- it will only make it worse. My suggestion is to sit in a tub of warm water to see if that will relax your urethra enough so you can urinate. If that doesn't work, it's better to cath than to strain. And be sure to let your doctor know.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Did you have lidocaine in your instill? The lidocaine will OFTEN take away the urge to void and it makes it hard to start the stream. If you can't pee after several hours I would do the cath, but know that the lido is probably the cause, that is if you used it. It is possible your urethra is swollen, but not likely after one instill.

Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone. After a few hours I was finally able to go normally like nothing had ever happened. Weird.

I am so glad you were able to go. I never had that problem, I could hold it for a few hours but was always able to go.
