I started taking atarax 3 days ago and my frequency increases. Can it make you worse. They taught me how to do instills and gave me the perscriptions. I had to go to three places before I found one to carry all of the stuff and then they had to special order it. At least most of it will fall under a perscription which will help with the cost. Why do I always flare worse in the evening? They only want me to do them once a week and use a capful of Elmiron. I cant take it orally due to ALT counts.
Love you guys,
Cathy "Seven month into this now."

Hi, I have been on Hydroxyzine, which is Atarax since 2002 with no problems, but that doesn't mean it can't be bothering you. How closely are you watching your diet? Diet plays a big role in most our lives with IC. Just the littlest thing could be enough to give you a flare. If you would eat or drink something during the day, that could be a reason for an evening flare.

Hang in there, it just takes time to get treatments in sync, and we all flare from time to time.

Hi, I had this problem when I started Atarax, the pharmacist said it could be the fillers they use to make it. I would take it and then urinate 5 times before falling to sleep. I asked them to get me brand name but they said they don't make it anymore. I stuck with it and once I started the 25mg, I was ok. So some filler they used to make the 10mg I think caused my frequency. Its kind of hard to know if its something I ate and it was just a coincidence, but once I started the 25 I was ok. The pharmacist said different companies use different fillers and thats what I think it was. I would let your doctor know, and even your pharmacist. :) Lisa

I take Vistaril (the close cousin, it's hydroxyzine just formulated a little bit different) and when I first started it I swore my frequency went up the first couple days taking it. I almsot stopped taking it, but decided to give it a week or so, and thank goodness I did - that went away. I remember being so discouraged at that! But was thankful that things settled down and it became one of my biggest helpers! ;)

That may be what happened with me also Tracey, cause when I started it, my frequency went up at night, I was discouraged also. but I stuck with it and it stopped so maybe we just have to get used to it. :)

I also take Visteral - and recently the color of the pill changed (I guess it's the generic - went from green to pink) and it increased my frequency for about a week also - strange huh? (It does fine now)

Yeah, Lisa - I remember being soooo annoyed as I had been really hoping and wanting it to help me out, then to feel like it only made me worse - I think I cried, lol. Thank goodness it all evened out, whew! ;)

I wonder if it was the change in the colorants that bugged your bladder for a bit??
