We don't have one near us, but I think it would be fun to browse in one. But I'm a shop-a-holic so I like to browse everywhere!

They are great! It is a big grocery store, but pretty much everything in there is organic... including the breads they bake, the health and beauty stuff, etc. It's basically a health food store on steroids :D
There is one right by work - my husband and I go there Monday at lunch time and buy fruits, cheeses, breads, yogurts, snack foods like organic nuts and dried fruit, whatever to keep in the refrigerator in his work area. Enough to eat lunch each day for the week.
that sounds great.. how much do things cost typically compared to a regular grocery store
Bea,
Whole Foods is pretty pricy, but for the quality, I don't mind paying extra. They have so many options for food, supplements, beauty products, etc. I'm sure you will love it!

I love Whole Foods but it is a bit of a drive for me. I think I like Donna's idea. You would probably find it fun to just browse at first without any preconcieved ideas about what you would like to buy. Think fresh, organic, simple....it all applies to Whole Foods. The people that work there are also very knowledgeable about their products, so you can get quite and education from them.
Yum........

i do all of my grocery shopping at whole foods. at first, i was terribly afraid of the prices. but for some reason food goes farther when i buy it there. i think it's because there are no additives.
anyway, i began eating all organic a year and a half ago because i have food-sensitive migraines. i saw immediate results and began to be headache free.
i now only shop there and it's so much easier to buy IC-friendly foods there.
an average price for a pound of lunch meat is $9. produce doesn't run TOO high. whole foods carries both organic and conventional items. so be sure to check the lable. but all of their food is much more healthy than regular grocery store food - no pesticides, antibiotics, hormones.
i strongly encourage you to pay whole foods a visit. i buy my supplements there, too. and my dish washing liquid :) i love it! and they have the BEST samples ever.

I love wholefoods too, but i have found each location is different.
The meats are excellent, i eat a lot of chicken and turkey.
Wholefoods has their own brand of almond butter, I just bought some for the first time this week, i bought the cruchy kind and i have to say it is good and isnt as expensive as the maranatha brand.
They have some gluten free pasta and other gluten free foods, if that is a problem for you.

I find a lot of cereals that I can tolerate there. They also have a lot of convenient chicken sausages with all natural and tolerable ingredients. I like the feta and spinach sausages and the porcini mushroom, they are of a particular brand, but I forget which one.
Yes it is definitely pricey, I make sure only to buy the specialty items I can't get anywhere else. If you elect to do all your shopping there, you will get charged a lot of extra markup on normal everyday items.
I have found a lot of the same products in Wegmans for much cheaper, but unfortunately I no longer live near one. Also, Trader Joe' s has comparable food items.
thanks ladies.. yeah I have a wegmans about 15 min from my house.. i love that store

This is a few days late, but here goes anyway. I love Whole Foods but find it pricey. I will buy three bags of groceries and pend nearly $200, when I would have spent under $100 at Safeway. If you find the prices daunting then I highly recommend looking at Trader Joes. The selection is not as big, but they also offer mostly healthy foods with no preservatives or hormones, as well as lots of organics!
Good luck!

I found several cereals by Heritage brand, one by Arrowhead Mills, and one of the store brand. Also, organic golden round crackers by the store brand (365). The non-organic had something funky in it. Also bought Looza pear nectar, carob chips (for fake choc. chip cookies), fresh bread. I buy meat and veg. at the regular store.
