Well, I was diagnosed with IC a mth ago. My dr. did not state if it was mild/moderate/severe and at that time I didn't even know to ask. He told me that I have ulcers on my bladder wall.

I have been taking Elmiron, Hydroxyine and Prosed/ds for a month now and have been following the ic diet. I'm still in pain on and off every day and the frequency is still just as bad.

Do I call the dr. or should I give the meds more time?? Right now, he prescribed the meds for 3 mths. I

I just want this to go away. I really want to try to have a baby and I don't know if I should just ditch the medicines and start trying (since the pain isn't going away anyways) or give my bladder another 2 mths or so to heal.

I know I'm venting, but my husband just doesn't get it and no one I know is dealing with this. I'm just feeling lost and alone.

Elmiron normally takes several months to feel the full effects. My doctor gave me meds for the pain from the beginning. Hydroxyine was never strong enough to help me with any of my symptoms. I guess depending on your diagnosis. I am sure if you called his office to find out how severe you case is and let him know you are having pain. Hopefully he will prescribe pain meds so that you can tolerate it better.

Elmiron does take a while, I felt like you did when I started on them. It took me about 4 months for it to take any effect.

I would tell your docter about the pain. If you say nothing they assume everything is working and you feel fine. Then they can start trying other treatments.

It really is important that you keep your doctor in the loop. So do call and let the doctor know that you are still having problems. Talk all these issues over with the doctor. Hopefully, there is something that can be done to try to reduce the level of pain you are in.

You should also give your meds and the IC Diet a chance to work for you. It can take more than one month to do that. I totally understand how much you want to feel better and how much you want to get pregnant. I also know how hard it is to wait when you are in pain. I really do. (((Hugs)))

I would call. Hopefully something can be ordered to help with your pain.

I would call and you'll probably end up leaving a message or talking with one of the nurses at the practice. Maybe the dr thought that he could wait three months to see you again because he thought you would get relief from the meds pretty quickly. You def want to let him know that you are still feeling the same and let them know how bad the pain is and how it is effecting your life. It can take many months for Elmiron to work so alot of dr's do rescue instills to help calm down the bladder in the mean time. Hopefully they will be willing to call you in something for pain for when you're having a really hard time. You won't know what he'd want to do next now that you're still feeling so bad unless you call and ask. I hope you feel better soon. :grouphug:
