I had a racing heart with Elavil and had to stop it, but I loved it so much because it helped me sleep. I also have Nortriptyline at home. If Elavil (a tricyclic anti) made my heart race would other tricyclics make my heart race too?

I don't know about other Tricyclic's but Elavil is known for causing problems...that would prolly explain those flutters in my throat.

This is what I pulled off the Elavil website:
Patients with cardiovascular disorders should be watched closely. Tricyclic antidepressant drugs, including ELAVIL, particularly when given in high doses, have been reported to produce arrhythmias, sinus tachycardia, and prolongation of the conduction time. Myocardial infarction and stroke have been reportedwith drugs of this class.

I think you should prolly ask your PCP or Uro, they would know best based on your previous medical history. :)

I was taking Elavil and it was causing me some problems including a rise in blood pressure. I switched to Tofrinal which is also a tricyclic anti and I am not having any side effects from it. So from my experience changing meds did help. But you really need to talk to you Dr about this.
