I'm trying to make my way through A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. I've joined the world's largest internet classroom on Oprah.com. The author will be giving out homework assignments and teaching the class, starting on March 3rd. The problem is that after reserving a seat for the class......I don't like the book. I can't get past the first 60 pages. I don't understand it at all. It has to do with a lot of Freud's theories of the Ego. Not my cup of tea. My Mom wants me to stay in the class and try to get something out of it. It meets for 10 weeks. I tried to start reading it over again from the beginning but I fell asleep.
Just wondering if any one else has read it?

Drop it, and read something that you'll get something out of! If you can't follow it, then it probably just doesn't make sense.

Hey Kara,
Me too!!!!I feel like such a loser, because I went on Oprah's message board and everyone is acting like this is the most relevant book since the Bible. I am so lost. I end up having to read every page over and over. I must be really shallow because I just don't get it!

I've been meaning to check into this book; I hadnt a clue what its all about until you posted, Kara. This sounds like my type of read. I believe a trip to B&N is in order.
Regarding Oprah's "classroom"--I think if this were me, I'd "sit" through a couple of "classes" to see if perhaps the book starts to make sense. You never know if someone else's perspective or comments will give you an "a-ha" moment.

I am so bad at reading the last chapter first to see if I like the ending! Guess I wouldn't be good in the class! If it's not a funny, romantic love story or by some of my favorite authors, I just can't get interested. I am not one to force myself to do anything that doesn't sound reasonable. I have read some of Oprahs books in her book club, but I can't say that I have finished any.

I'm still trying with this book and have even gotten my MIL to join me. I am half way through but I am still waiting for the part where they teach you how to live this new way. I keep hoping that each page I turn, will be some answers. I'm going to keep on with it but it really has just been homework for me and not much enjoyment. I am a bit puzzled by how much she is pushing it. I won't go into details until we've read it all. Very frustraing though! I usually pick things up really well but this is a tough one.
