Hi guys!
I'm in the UK,and my consultant is on long term sick leave...So my family doctor and I are trying to work out a treatment plan from first principles. I have pelvic floor dysfunction, and have 3 days of bad voiding and some pain after sex. I have been taking a witches brew of herbal supplements to try to stop the bad voiding leading to a bladder infection, and it mostly works, but I'm taking (much) more than the recommended doses.
One of the last things the consultant said before going on sick leave was that "a short course of antibiotics after sex" would be a better option, but he didn't say which one or what dose. The family doctor says that 3 days of trimethoprim would be her choice, but that's what you give for a full blown UTI and I think it's too much. I have been on low dose Macrodantin (nitrofurantoin), 50mg/day before, but wonder if one macrodantin after sex is enough when really my problem hits after aout 36 hours...
Needless to say, I just have to look at an antibiotic to get a yeast infection, and I'm worried about the possible link between antibiotics and IC (I also have what the UK medics call an "irritible bladder" and I'm allergic to a lot of things). Are there any IC-safe(r) antibiotics?
Sorry to bombard you with a lot of questions. Any shared experiences would be very welcome.
