I am new to this forum. Here is my story...Any advice would help.

Thoughout my entire life, I would have this horrible burning sensation after I urinate, only on the outside skin though (I think). Nothing like in my bladder or anything. I have no pain at all. I do have to use the bathroom pretty frequently. My mom would always get anoid at me because of my frequentcy to use the bathroom.

I have mentioned this to many doctors. They would just give me a Urinary Track test, which always came out negitive. Once they realized it was negitive, they would just brush it off like I have never even mentioned it. How frusterating. I have done my own research and STDs would always come up. But I know that is impossible. First of all, I had this way before I became sexualy active.

I would get this burning feeling after I pee, then I would feel that in order to releave the burn, I should go pee again. I would go pee again, then it would just get worse.

I have realized that it is acidic foods that would give me this burning feeling. I am not sure if that was the case my whole life, but now I have found the relation. I am pregnant, and was craving oranges, oranges juice, tomato juice, pickles, stuff like that. And those thing were all I would want to eat. Well I was suffering horribly with this burning feeling. Only then did it occur to me that it could be the acidic foods that was give me the feeling. So I stopped eating acid foods, and the feeling went away about 98%.

Now I realize that everytime I have an acidic food, to expect that I will get the burning feeling.

I mentioned this to my OB doc and she told me about IC. I have not actuly been diagnosed yet. As I am reading about the symptoms of IC, I do not nor have I ever had any pain at all. Just the horrible horrible burning.

Has anyone ever had the same symptoms? Thanks for any help you can give.

Samantha,

Actually you describe me pretty well. I always have a baseline burning sensation when I void. I also have always had frequency. i remember my parents driving us home from church on Sun. mornings and I'd have to pee on the side of the road because i couldn't make it home... and I had gone at church before heading for home!! I haven't had the burning sensation all my life, but I do now... I am never entirely without it.

If acid affects you that much, you very well may have IC. It wouldn't hurt to make an appt. with a uro. Even before you have your baby, they can sit down and go over your history, and since you do have a burning issue you willwant to find out what is going on- I'm sure something is.

first welcome..

now, I am so sorry you are suffering like this.. and even more sorry that your mom would get annoyed that you would have to go to the bathroom a lot.. I always got that with people.. and it really hurt.. like you have control over that.

as far as what you are feeling.. I get a lot of burning like that especially if I eat something acidic, but sometimes for no reason at all.. but with IC.. vulvad.. etc.. we all have different symptoms too.... I would definitely go to a uro familiar with IC and figure out what is going on.. and that after the pregnacy maybe have a hydro and cycsto done. congrats on your pregnacy, and hopefully you can have answers asap..

also if avoiding the food is helping you so much, I would definitely continue doing so like you have.. also ask your ob if you can try prelief, many times that helps with the acid in foods.. and possibly lidocaine to put on your vaginal area when you have the buring.. I was able to use that while pregnat as well.. I would suggest a warm bath, but I know or have heard that isnt great during pregnancy.. you can ask your ob about that as well, for I definitely find relief with that as well

I am so glad I am not alone, although I am exstreemly sorry you have had to suffer this terrible feeling too. Does your burning feeling burn on the outside? It is almost like my skin around the opening is irritated. Maybe it is on the inside, but feels like the outside skin??? Is this how it is for you aswell?

I just cant understand how an internal bladder issue would affect the outside skin. Unless the urine itself has an iratant in it????

I fortunatly have not had the all of a sudden urgency (exsept now that I am 5 months pregnant.) But at any given moment, I can always pee. :toilet:

I have taken a loooooong bath when it gets really bad. The warm water gives me the releafe. I am usuly in the bath as long as it takes to totaly go away. Once it is gone for that time, I am able to go pee again and not get the burning. If I can hold off long enough from peeing until the burning goes away, then I will be fine....Until the next time. But I feel like if I pee, it will releave me of the burning. but it just gets worse.

Thanks for the help.

It sounds like you might have IC. If you'll scroll to the top of this page, you'll find a link to "Diet" --- click on that and you'll find information about following an IC diet.

And :welcome: to the IC Network!
