Why is it that IC pain can be so horrible? I mean in January I was off work the first week of January 3 days and then the middle week of January the entire week. So I'm starting Feb out on a bad note, I'm home today. I have FMLA but my manager is making my life at work hell. I had that horrible nose bleed last night and I woke up this morning with that stabbing, like a hot knife is being rammed thru your pelvis pain this morning. I was bent over the kitchen counter sobbing. My pain doc wants me to get up to 1800mg of neurontin and has given me percocet for breakthrough pain and I have used alot of that up. There's no way I'm going to make it until the end of the month on the percocet I have left. I follow the diet to a T the last little while b/c I'm so afraid of not following it. I'm 40 yrs old, I can't do this for another 30-40 yrs, there's no way. I'm sick and I wish people would take me serious (coworkers, inlaws, doctors).
I guess I'm just having a really crappy day.

Jill,
I hate that you are flaring today. I know things seems so dim when you are hurting. I know I have been there and still have days like that.
But please, don't think it can't get better. Because it can. Have you thought about maybe changing your meds. I know I had to try several ones before I found the right combo that helped me.
I hope you start feeling better soon. (((((hugs)))))

Thanks Leelee. Like I said I guess it's just being up most of the night after that stupid nose bleed, the last thing I needed this morning was pelvic pain.

I am so sorry you are in so much pain today. (((Hugs)))

Repeat after me. Come on, you know exactly what I am going to say...Could it be a UTI?...See, you did know what I was going to say...:lmao:

Seriously, I hope this nasty pain goes away quickly. Take care of yourself, drink lots of water, use heat and rest, rest, rest.

I too hope you start feeling better soon too!! And Sharon, you took the words out of my mouth - UTI. Any time I had a spike in pain/symptoms that's where my brain ran to first. Especially when I was confident I had been pretty good at my diet etc. And you might want to make an appt with your pain management doc to let him/her know that you aren't having good success with your meds - it might be needing some tweaking here and there. Ronda's right - it can and will get better, keep your chin up - unfortunately it can take a bit of Medicine Trial and Error to get the right combo for you! You will find your magic bullet, I just know it!!!!! ;)

BIG hugs,
Tracey :)

Ugh, don't we all say that saying at some point during our IC. Some more than others. I think I tell the pain to go away at least once daily. I have been on 1200 mg of neurontin for over a month now and haven't seen any pain improvement. My pelvic pain specialist prescribed it to me. His hope was that this would help with my pain so I could lower my dose of my pain meds but by no means did he mean it as a primary way to get pain relief. I can't believe that you're seeing a pain dr and not getting enough percocet to get you through the month. I would talk to your pain dr about this as it obviously isn't working for you. I actually have to talk to my dr tomorrow about what we are going to do with the neurontin, up it again or try something different since I'm still in just as much pain.
I just wanted to mention also that your manager should not be able to give you a hard time about missing work when you have FMLA. I would talk to the head of HR for your office and let them know what is going on. When I first filed for my FMLA my head of HR made it very clear to me that I didn't have to let my boss anything more than that I was using FMLA time and that was it. I was lucky and my boss for the most part was really nice. She honestly cares and wants to see me get better so I always told her about what was going on and knew all about my IC but I didn't have to tell her anything. I just don't want you to deal with extra stress in your life when your boss can't legally be giving you that extra stress.
I hope you feel better soon. :grouphug:

Hi there...you mentioned FMLA. Is that the right program to use if you are missing work? Do you have short term disability?

Thanks ladies for the support.

Julie, I'm on FMLA. I work at a university. They don't have short term disability, they do have long term disability but you have to be out for anywhere from 30-90 days and then it has to be approved. I haven't checked into that to see how it gets approved. You would then collect 60% of your salary. Right now it's hard b/c I'm the only one working in my family. My husband has been out of work for 6 months.

My manager just makes me feel so guilty about taking sick days. She has called me at home and told me that she is frustrated with my illness. Yeah, me too. My mom called me today at home and we got into an arguement. She said she can see why my manager is frustrated with me and that if I'm "that sick" I needed to go to the ER. I told her the ER isn't going to do anything. They will give me pain meds (maybe) and tell me to go to my doc.
