Hey all,

As many of you know, I'm not newly diagnosed, but I could not find a better location to post my question...

Basically, I'm seeing a new Uro-gyn tomorrow, and as always I have a list of questions I want to ask him about how he will care for me, and how he plans to treat my IC etc. I also interview my doctors before completely commiting to them... I don't want to be stuck with a doctor that doesn't respect me, believe in IC, research new treatments etc. I was wondering if any of you could share the questions you ask new doctors... I'd be interested what "interviews" youve given new doctors and questions I may not even have thought of!

Thanks,
ellen

I would ask how he feels about patients who do internet research, how he treats IC, if he believes some IC patients need help with pain and if he prescribes pain medications when needed --- or if he makes referrals to pain specialists.

Ellen -- that's a great question! I have learned over time what to ask. Here's a link to an article that Jill actually directed me to: http://www.ic-network.com/md/OP371a_8_28.pdf
It's wonderful for both patients and physicians to learn more about diagnosing and treating IC. It has a couple flowcharts that are great for getting a good picture of how to first diagnose IC starting with the least invasive to the most. But it also describes using a multi-modal approach, using both meds, diet, etc. It's also from 2006 so very current information (at least compared to some of the info out there). Good luck with your new Uro-gyn. :)
