As I posted before. I can't tolerate anti- depressants. I have tried all of the SSRI"s they either increase my anxiety and I can't stand it or they shut my bladder down and I get urinary retention.

Anyone one have suggestions? Anyone take a tricyclic for an anti depressant other then elavil and have good success.

Thanks

Miss Vicky

The SSRIs I've tried have all made me extremely nauseated so I can understand your frustration. I've tried Celexa, Zoloft and Paxil. I also tried Serzone and Wellbutrin which are in a slightly different category. These last two were not as toxic to me but they still made me very sick once I hit the full starting dose. I had no luck with tri-cyclics either (bad nausea from Elavil). You might ask to see a psychiatrist who is most knowledgeable about these meds and they can talk to you about the different classes. I think Effexor is in a different class than the SSRIs too. Good luck.

I wanted to know HOW LONG you stayed on those antidepressants that made you ill? I ask because I have taken Zoloft and Celexa before and had the same ill symptoms. I had diahhrea so bad for the first 3 weeks too. There were times I nearly couldn't make it to the restroom (ah lots of info there-sorry). But after that I had NO symptoms. I was able to stay on them for over a year without being sick anymore. I know it sucks taking a med that makes you so ill, but it's weird how all of a sudden it just stops! Just a thought...
