Does anyone wake up every morning with a flare? Every morning after I void i have pain. My pain usually consists of burning in my urethra. I'm not sure why this is happening every morning... I can usually make it go away by drinking lots of water but if its really bad i take prydium. Im feeling it right now at work :( and it seems like it might be one of those days where i have to take the prydium.
:help:

It could be caused by holding in the urine during the night. Drinking water to flush the bladder is very good.

I have really bad pain in the morning too. I'm at work and I have to see my boss I'm training with. She said she wanted us to both be fresh in the morning to start something. I am in so much pain I have to take MS Contin and it's that time of it setting in that's really hard!!!! My pain start even before I pee. I have to get up at least twice every night to pee too. For me, the pain is in my bladder but I've had that urethral pain before and that is really tough. I hope you feel better.

I have pain at night when I first settle down for the night, which my doctor said is because I am busy during the day, so when I settle down and get ready for bed, my body is relaxed and I notice the pain. In the mornings I have pain as well. I am finally able to sleep more than 2 hours at a time without getting up to pee, so around 4 or so I wake up hurting and have urg. I have learned to keep a pain med and water by my bed and take it when I first wake up. I stay in bed watching the news for about 30 minutes to allow the pain meds to kick in and I fine until the next evening. Finally staying in the same routine since August! I was on the meds rollercoaster for 20 years. I pray everyday that my meds keep working because I love feeling almost "normal" again.

t83,
How long has you been on the same pain med? I've been on mine for 2 years I want to say. So far so good once it's kicked in. I suffer at night also once it's worn off. I often find myself going to bed by 8:00 just 'cause I don't want to take anything else - being pregnant and all. I'm supposed to get off my meds completely in my 3rd trimester but I don't know if I can. I'll be in so much pain unless a resmission starts now.

I know it says not to do this on the heating pad, but I sleep with mine at night. I don't lay on it, but I have had some success with relieving that first of the morning pain with urination by using the heating pad. Also, I drink 3 + liters of water per day.

Hi Tracey,
Thats interesting about what your doctor said.
I almost always "feel" my IC when I lie down in bed to go to sleep.
Its weird, because it happens on days when I am totally symptom free.
Hhmm.

It was weird for me, I'd wake up, feel ok and as the morning progressed it'd get worse. I'd take my pain medications and have to sit it out til I was "comfortable" enough start getting ready for work, ugh. It was a pain, lol, no pun intended. It was just a good thing I had super flexible hours and could come in at 11am if need be! ;)

Mornings are painful for me too. Well I'm pmsing so my emotions are all over the place and I flare before and during my period. I woke up in soooo much pain, peed and then had the burning sensation. I took an ultram and started to get ready for work, by the time i was driving I started to feel better. Drink lots and lots of water and use the pyridum if need be. Hope you feel better soon!!!

I always have urethral and bladder spasms in the morning with the first void...every morning. I think it's because of the build up of urine and so much coming out at one time. I just wait it out and by the 2nd or 3rd time I go it's usually much better. It happens to me when I wake up in the middle of the night as well.

Jessica,

It made since to me. I am really a hyper type person and back then I was young like you so it was hard to keep me down for long. I was a neat freak, almost OCD, and as long as I wasn't in a flare, I would rather work and stay busy and active. I started getting to where I hated when it was time for bed because I knew what my body was going to do, so I wouldn't even lay down until at least midnight. It was miserable. Between my urg/freq and my pain, I was lucky to get much sleep if any. I probably only did as well as I did because I don't require much sleep...never did, but I still needed to get some sleep. I continue to have issues now with falling asleep. It's like that is ingrained in my head. The pain I have a night now is nothing like it was, but it's still enough to require a pain med. There are nights here and there that I fall asleep without taking anything, and I wake up during the night in horrible pain, so I always make sure that I have taken my med. My husband follows up in case I had fallen asleep in my bed watching TV, since I have my meds in an "old lady" pill case. He has spent enough nights with me waking up crying because of the pain.

I have been on Lortab for about 15 of years of the 20 years I have had IC. I really didn't have pain for the first 2 years, just freq/urg with some pressure. I went into remission for a little while, back then I didn't even know what remission was. There wasn't a whole lot of information about it like there is now. It literally came back with a vengence one July day. I had urg/freq and so much pressure I ended up in the ER that night and the next afternoon because I was hurting so much. Pre-interstim implant, I tried other meds, but everything either made me feel like things were crawling on me or they just weren't as effective for me. I remember Percocet made me hyper. When my IC first became severe and I hadn't had my implant yet, I was miserable waiting to take my next dose of Lortab. I felt like I was eating them like M&Ms. My doctor did prescribe a patch one time, I don't know if it was Fentynol (spelling???), but my insurance wouldn't approve it, so I continued on Lortab. After my surgery, I was able to cut down. And now almost 5 years later I am down to 1 1/2 to 2 a day.

I wake a lot of mornings with burning. Most of the time it's probably the urine being more concentrated. It usually goes by 10am, somtimes noon unless I'm flaring. When I'm flaring it stays with me pretty much 24/7.
