Hello everyone,:hi:

I live in Germany and for the past 3 years I have been treated with chondroin sulphate instillations (and Elavil), which has really helped a lot concerning urgency and frequency:toilet:. Right now my doc`s assistant is teaching me how to do the instillations at home.:smile tee
Additionally I have been using 300 mg pentosan polysulphate (Elmiron) orally.
It helped to reduce the pain a lot (not the urgency however...). Unfortunately it is not admitted for IC therapy in Germany, so my health insurance doesn`t pay for it.
Since I have been experiencing a lot of side effects resulting from Elmiron, I am considering to do elmiron instillations (also, according to my calculations that would be much cheaper than taking it orally...at least considering German prices).

However, since pentosan polysulphate instillations are rarely (if ever) used here, I have no clue how to do make them.:hmm:
You can purchase a pentosan polysulphate/Elmiron solution here that can be instilled (100 mg, would that be enough?).
I do know how to instill this chondroitin sulphate stuff. Regarding the Elmiron, I have a few questions:

1.) Do you mix it with anything like sodium chloride solution?
2.) How much of each of these solutions do you use (would a dose of 100 mg pentosan be sufficient, how much (if, at all) sodium chloride solution do you use and what about lidocaine?)
3.) How often do I have to instill it?

Eagerly waiting for your answers
Thanks a lot in advance :flower:

Hugs from Germany

I don't think liquid is available here. You might want to contact the drug company.

My MD determined the "cocktail" instill I use so I didn't have to figure what ingredients I needed for an instill.

I have never heard of a liquid form of Elmiron. When I did my instills at home, I opened up a 100mg capsule and dissolved it in the other ingredients (sodium bicarb and lidocaine, although even plain normal saline would/should work).

You should check out Dr. Parson's website. He's the IC doctor/researcher that came up with the PST and the first rescue instillation formula.
