View Full Version : Second hydro went well

I had my second hydro this morning. It was under general anesthesia. My uro stretched my bladder twice (was able to stretch it more than the first time even). He got my bladder to 900cc's, which is a big improvement from 6 months ago at 500cc's. I don't have too much pelvic pain from the stretching, but he also dilated my urethra and that is giving me some burning. I was given some lidocaine in a tube to inject to my urethra and that helps. I also use the aloe vera wash cloths from Walgreens and that helps the external discomfort.

The first time I had significant retention. I told them not to give me demerol for pain and that, I believe, made a huge difference. Urination is not painless, but it isn't horrible. I am peeing some blood, but not bad. The good thing is that he took pictures (didn't get pics from the first hydro with my first urologist). The pictures show the typical IC pattern and pin point bleeding. So, between a positive PST, abnormal urodynamics study, and now visually seeing my bladder distended, I have IC without any doubt. There was some concern if it was really IC, but I have it in spades. They couldn't really get a good look at my bladder because they couldn't stretch it out in the office, so now they could see it clearly.

Well, the hydro was not all that bad. I am using darvocet orally and lidocaine topically and not feeling all that bad. I don't have class tomorrow, so I have another day to rest and recover. I hope this helps me!!!

i'm so glad you were able to be stretched so far AND get a dx! i've had my urethra dilated MANY times (just fyi...don't let them do it too often!!) but always AWAKE and that was torture.

feel free to email me anytime...i'd like to discuss your urodynamics testing w/you. to say mine is odd is putting it lightly lol.

hope you continue to do well.

tracy

btw...now that you have "confirmed" ic, are they switching your meds @all?

It is now 2008. None of us has to put up with a very painful procedure. Please, ask questions, ask if it is " rather uncomfortable" Doctors words for horrible pain, You have the right to be "out" and in a hospital. God knows we suffer every day. We don't need painful tests and a course of actions that torture us. I have gone from a meek, that's OK type of person to questioning every darn thing any Medical person prescribes, or treatment they intend to do. My right, my body, my pain. I'm very happy for you Alyssa and so pleased this HYDRO was not greatly painful after. Take care, be kind to yourself. Hug, Ziggy

I am glad your feeling ok after your hydro. I hope you continue to do well. I know its hard to find out, but now that you know what it is, you don't have to keep wondering and guessing. I remember before I was diagnosed, they did that urethral dilation on me in the office and it HURT. It did make my stream better though but it didn't last long. Keep us posted how your doing. :) Lisa

I'm so glad that it went okay and you're not in too much pain. I am also glad that you finally know for sure that you have IC. I know for awhile there they were saying they didn't think that's what it was. I hope that this gives you some relief. I didn't get any relief from my first one so I doubt I'd ever do another one unless they wanted to take a look if it was thought my bladder was much worse. I am so happy though for those who are helped by it. Donna is right though take it easy. I had more pain than you did and it took me almost a week to recover from mine.
