Hi Everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with IC. My symptoms include frequency, urgency and lots of burning/pressure.

This came at the worst time being that I was about to ttc a baby. I was just about to start my first round of clomid (I have pcos) when I found out that it was not a uti that needed clearing up.

So now, I am on Elmiron, Prosed/ds and hydroxyzine. My dr. wanted me to do the bladder instillations 2x per week for 3 mths but i opted out of it. I've been sticking to the "ic" diet which has definitely not been easy for me.

Well, now i'm so depressed with this diagnoses. I really want to have a baby and I'm just don't know what steps I should take now.

ARe there any multivitamins that won't do harm to my bodY? can i take folic acid? How long does it take for these meds to leave my system?

My biggest fear is if I do get pregnant, how will i distinguish between ic pressure/pain and regular pregnancy related pain. how will i know if i developed a uti or if it's just ic? under the circumstances, would I have to be considered a high risk pregnancy?

Thanks for any advice, input etc. Thanks for just letting me vent!

Hello and let me say :welcome: to the ICN!! Do not get too discouraged, yes it can be a set back, but there are lots of ICers who go on to have healthy babies! Check out the pregnancy boards here, I am sure you can find a bunch of information there etc. And don't forget the Patient Handbook - excellent resource for everything IC and what it affects etc.

And do talk to your doctor about it - see what he/she thinks both your urologist and your OB/gyn, I am sure they can help guide you as well!! Just don't give up, k?

Most of us find our combination (though, through trial and error, ugh) that works for us, be it meds, diet, supplements etc - or a combination of any and all that helps us to feel pretty darn good!!!

Keep your chin up - it's not easy but doable!!! ;)

Hugs,
Tracey

Don't let IC scare you away from trying to have a wee one. There are many here who have been or are right now pregnant. Like Tracey suggested, read the pregnancy boards.

Here's a link to a couple of stories that just might help: http://www.ic-network.com/pregnancyjournal/

just wanted to say welcome.. also I have two healthy children.. it was a struggle to have them for me, but worth every second.. I don't remember the name of my prenatal vitamin, but it was white and the least irritating for me.. good luck to you
