Ok. my first refill on my pain med was the end of December. I was not suppose the refill it untill Jan.7th. The nurse told me to call a week early because of the holidays. So I did. This month I called 2 weeks early to (ask) when I should be calling in my refill. The nurse told me to call Monday which is on week before the refill date. Today I get a call from a nurse telling me that I will have to fill out a pain med contract because I have called in early twice. ??????. I am not out of my meds, I just did not know when to call them in. I told her that and she said the dr will want to talk to me about it. Now I feel like a drug seeker! I am embarresed and dread seeing him on the 20th. Will he believe me? Should I bring in my meds to show him I still have the correct amount? What should I do?

You should definitely bring them with you, and you should stand up for yourself. You are just being proactive, and planning ahead rather than running out and calling them after the fact. It is ridiculous how some of the nurses I've dealt with have no idea how frustrating it can be to have your pelvis acting so angry. I have actually caught myself wishing IC on a few of them because they've been nasty to me. And I don't even take pain meds.

yes i agree to take your meds with you and i also agree about the nurses but i have discovered here recently that the doctors in arkansas act like you are just coming in for the pain meds and not because you are in alot of pain, the nurses ive been in contact with seem more understanding then the doctors do.. how pitiful is that? hopefully they will all become more informed and if anyone knows a way to help spread the word please let me know...

Take you meds with you and explain to the doctor why you called. It could be that he doesn't even know that you called.

Thanks guys,
I needed that. I think I will even wait a couple of days to fill my perscription. I feel like a kid going to the principles office. The rare occastion that I do take an extra pill it is to have intercourse with my husband. I guess I'll have to tell the dr about that. My face stays red through my entire appt.

trust me i completely understand that i get sooo embarassed when trying to take about my sex life but i have just found something that helps that sooo much, you take a 10mg valium and crush it up really well and i bet you could even put a little water with it to make like a paste and put it vagianally and i didnt even have to take a pain pill with it but i was a little sore the next morning but it was soo worth it, you might want to give that a try, i cant take an extra pain pill i have enough for one a day for a month so i had to try to find other options... just a thought...

thanks,
maybe he will give me credit for being honest about the issue. I don't know if he will let me try the valium but it can't hurt to ask, I hope.

My doctor has told me several times to call his office if I am running low and it's not time for my next appt. It's not a pain management office, but my doctor's nurse can be a little "uncaring" at times. I do the same thing with valium, but I use a lubricant so it's not as watery. I still have to take pain meds (normally just half of one) because the morning after is usually difficult.
DeAnna, you are strong, don't let them get to you!
Hugs,Tracey

Yes I agree talk to your Dr. Most of the time they have no idea what the office staff that are in charge of handling this kind of stuff are doing. I have seen it happen time and time again when I worked for Dr. I have seen several of the patients call in and seen there charts never get to the Dr off of the one in charges desk. Please Please take this up with his personally.

Hello,
I would ask the doctor what the office policy is for refills. I go to a pain clinic and had to fill out and sign a contract there. Their policy is you must call in at least 3 full office days before you go to pick up the prescription. I pick it up and fill it a few days before my last prescription is out. I am on fentanyl patches and there have been a few times over the last 3 years when I forgot until the next day to replace a patch so over time, I built up a reserve and have about 3 extra at all times, which is good because I don't have to panic if I forget to call them in when I need to. I am lucky that all of my doctors have a very friendly staff so I have never had to butt heads with anyone.
The only time I had a problem was years ago my regular dentist, Dr. Molen, sent be to a specialist to have a root canal. They drilled the tooth, but the pain just kept getting worse. I told the receptionist that I needed to be seen again. She told me that it would hurt for awhile and they refilled my pain meds. I called again a few days later and she told me it was normal and that I was using too many pain meds.:help: I have had several root canals so I knew that once they are drilled the pain usually subsides. This went on for almost a month, I spent my waking hours holding water in my mouth which is the only way the pain would let up, and then only when the water was in my mouth. This wasn't easy since I was a 911 dispatcher and my whole job involved talking. It finally got to the point that I called my dentist on a Friday night after not sleeping for 3 days. He told me to be in his office first thing in the morning. I told him that I couldn't get past the receptionist (there may have been another name I used for :cussing: Dr. Molen told me that he had gotten complaints about her before. I met him there and he immediately called the specialist and told him to meet us at their office now! He met us at his office, he went in and drilled the tooth next to the other one and the pain was gone.:smile tee They both needed root canals. This was about a week before I left for a cruise. I loved Dr. Molen, he was so funny that it was hard to keep from laughing when you had a drill etc in your mouth. :biglaugh: The first day I went to Dr. Molen, I notice he had a signed movie poster from the movie Hook. I found out that his brother Gerald Molen was the producer, he also had a copy of Variety framed with his brother and Speilberg., on the cover accepting their Oscars for Schindeler's List. I told him that was an interesting coincidence because I had gone to visit friends in California and I went to lunch with a friend from high school drama class, who worked in the script department for MGM. This was around the time that 30 Something was the IT show. He showed me around MGM, including the scripts for the show, which impressed all the ladies I worked with at 911. We went to lunch, across the street,to the commissary at Columbia Pictures. Afterwards we walked around the lot. They were filming Hook at the time, I saw most of the extras playing pirates and did see Speilberg driving a golf cart around the lot but I was hoping to see Robin Williams. I have seen him in concert, once while Mork and Mindy was a hit and once a couple of years ago..both time my ribs hurt for days from laughing so much. We tried to catch a glimpse of the sets but Speilberg is very secretive and all of the sound stages had huge tarps, and I mean huge, hanging over the large doorways to the sound stages. We did find a stage that they were done with that was being dismantled. It was the set of the children's home and the balcony they stood on when the meet Peter Pan.
Well that turned into a book, but I thought it was "interesting" that I ended up with a dentist who's brother was the producer of the movie, who's set I had visited. It is a long way from LA to Kennewick, Washington.
Sorry I got so far off topic, but once I started all of the memories of the time came out.:ignore:
