So today I went to my new primary care dr. for the first time. I tell her I was just diagnosed with IC back in november after a hydro. so she starts gettin all my history...blah blah...and says when was my last TB test...I was like um highschool. so she tells me that sometimes TB can be mistaken as IC....OOOOook. But i know I dont have TB...but she does the test anyways...no bump yet...but my point is I seem to learn things everytime i go to these doctors...not to mention the fact that MY BIOPSY has never been seen or looked AT!...but back to my point. has anyone heard this before? Tuberculousis cystitis...and no i dont have TB lol. but i guess its just my new primary care dr's way of playing the rule out game yet again...even though I have IC...alrighty then. Sad thing is the only thing i can associate with TB is the waverly sanitorium...man i watch too much TAPS...lol.

Hi there! I'm not a doctor, but I think this is the wackiest thing I've heard. I'm not quite sure how TB would equate to IC - but then again, I'm not a doctor. I do know that if you had active TB, you would be very, very, very sick. So sick, you'd probably be in the emergency room. However, you can be a carrier of TB without developing the full disease. I'm still trying to make the connection to IC. I'm not coming up with one, but then again, I'm not a doctor - lol! I work for a health system and am required to get a TB test every year. I've never tested positive for TB. I'm just think this is a pretty far stretch from IC to TB. So if anyone else has info on this possible connection I'd be interested in hearing the details. Again, I'm just laughing over here because this just sounds a bit crazy to me. Sorry, I'm not sure this post helped.

May your TB test come back negative!

Tuberculosis can effect the genito urinary system so it makes sense to test you if you haven't been tested since high school.

When I was a little girl my father had TB and was able to work in spite of it. He was treated and was able to stay at home. Our family had to be skin tested frequently for a couple of years --- my tests were all negative and still are.

Trust me, I think it sounds crazy too. I have to go get it looked at tomorrow. Still no BUMP...as I said I don't have TB...if though she says people can have TB with no cough...but I guess its just precautionary? I will let ya know the results.

Actually not everyone with TB coughs. My father didn't --- I think that's one reason he was allowed to recover at home. In that era, people with TB frequently ended up being hospitalized for months.

You can test positive for TB but not have active TB disease which means you wouldn't show any signs or symptoms of TB. There is a long preventative type of treatment that a person would go through if they tested positive for TB infection but did not have active TB disease, thus no cough. I think they consider it latent TB and not TB disease. So there is a difference from having TB disease and being infected with TB. If you have active TB disease you are very sick. Donna, this might explain why your Dad was able to continue working. Here's a link to the description on the American Lung Association website that explains it a little better than I did:

Either way, I hope your TB test comes back negative.
