We woke up to a world of white this morning --- very unusual for our area --- and it's still coming down. It's not cold enough for it to stay around (I hope), but it sure is pretty!
There just might be enough to make a snow man before it melts!

The kind of snow that is pretty to watch and doesn't stay around for long is the best kind. :)

LOL, Tracey.... :D
Donna, I'm so happy you got some. I have spent the winter here wanting snow. We finally got like 2 inches two weeks ago, and that was followed a few days later by a fraction of an inch. *sigh* I miss Massachusetts where we would get 2 feet as a kid :)

LOL, You know Jen, I could box some up for you too!! I have more than plenty to go around, ;) We used to get hit hard here, but doesn't seem to be like it used to...
Leslie, you could send her some too - she needs enough for snow angels so the more the better!!! LMAO!! ;)

I love the snow, my kids do even more, but I HATE the ice. We just had a terrible ice storm that knocked our power out for a whole week, it was knocked out everywhere in all of Oklahoma city for a long time, some didn't have power for weeks! It looks like a tornado had come through, its bad!!
I am happy that you are getting the pretty stuff! Missy

All I can say is look out canada, - you're next in line!

Well, they've cancelled school around almost all of our area today. It's supposed to get warmer --- I sure hope it does. We're out of milk! :)

We don't get snow here very often but when the weathermen starts saying the "S" word, everyone runs to the stores and stampedes the dairy and bread section to buy milk, eggs and bread. It's so funny.

Glad its you getting snow and not us. Last time we seen snow was in Feb. 2004. We do get a good ice storm once a year, which we are still waiting for (usually happens between mid January-mid February) shuts down EVERYTHING - school, businesses, roads up and down Central Texas. As soon as people hear the weather person say its snowing/icing boy, people head to the stores thinking we're going to be stuck in it for days/weeks. My husband just laughs at all of this, because after all its Central Texas, and if you don't like the weather one minute, wait around it will change! (or the saying goes something like that!!)

Hey Tracey, your "gift" dropped 14 more inches of snow on us! Hubby will be up on the roof shoveling tomorrow.
Yeah, I see on the weather you guys in the north central states are in for some rude changes. I think Tracey's gift is doing the boomerang thing and heading right back to her house!

Just within a hundred mile radius of me:
Blizzard storm warning to the north west
Winter storm warning (where I live and north)
Tornado watch to the south
wind advisory in the middle (where I work)
This is the weirdest weather ever!:bonk: I have to pack a bag for work tonight. I might get stuck in Champaign due to the snow and winds. Thank goodness my brother lives there! Yall be careful the next few days.

LOL, Yeah, I think you guys were right, it's the gift that keeps on giving!! :) We have been "downgraded" to a Snow and Blowing Snow Advisory, oh goody.
Shameless as it is, it's in the 40's presently, and after a lot of rain yesterday a lot of our snow has melted - so what did I do? I started poking around the flower beds to see if any of the early spring bulbs are peeking out when I ran home earlier today, lol!! :)
Oh Vicki, I am so hoping it did most of it's "giving" at your place before it gets to mine, lmao!!!
Hey Kim - that sounds like Michigan weather!! You never know what to plan for, should I have a snowsuit or a cellar for tornadoes?? lmao!!! :)
Donna, don't forget the milk!!! ;)

It has been raining all day. Wait a second...Did someone say "raining"? It has been pouring all day and the temps are in the 60s. It is very windy and we are under Tornado Watch until 9:00pm and then a cold front will pass through and drop the temps down into the 40s. Oh whoopy doo.
traceann
01-29-2008, 08:48 AM
Ugh, sounds like our area Sharon, except no tornado business, yet. They say we could see some t-storms, though. It was 44* when I came home for lunch a half hour ago - now everything is a drippy, sloppy mess!! BLECK! And when it drops back to 19* tonight and tomorrow, I better get out my ice skates!!!
VickiB
01-29-2008, 09:16 AM
It's still snowing here, with a forecast of 4-8 inches more today in the valleys. Our county road is plowed, though barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass.
I'm happy to keep my snow and you guys can have the tornados. Nasty, nasty things those tornados!
traceann
01-29-2008, 09:30 AM
:lmao: I'm with you on that one Vicki!! I am terrified of tornadoes, definitely became a phobia, lol. Although, I always thought it would be fun to be a storm chaser scientist, go figure! My theory has always been that it's because my house and whatnot aren't affected etc. There's less fear then, yes, I am very odd...:loco:
They haven't talked about any numbers as far as accumulation go - yet.... I hear warnings for our area starting to go out - for the county north of us and the couny south of us, lol, wonder how THAT's gonna work!!!! ha ha!!!:bonk:

Who ever said they Wanted Summer- I say let them have it!! Here in Austin, its either too cold or too hot-I've seen it get to 110 degrees one year in September for over a week straight. (I've also seen it during the Winter when we had snow twice in January and then six weeks later after having summer like conditions it snowed again!!
Right now, our weather is just perfect - its in the 70's, though this morning it was cool with winds gusty up to 65mph.
Like I said before, gotta love our weather here in Austin.

01-29-2008, 11:12 AM
:woohoo: It stopped raining and the sun is actually peeking out from the clouds every so often. I hope we are done with the wet stuff for now. I haven't watched the weather since noon so do not know for sure. The temp is up to 63*. It's days like these when it is unseasonably warm that worry me the most.

Yesterday, I went to get gas at 230. It was 53 degrees. I left to go to work at 400. It was 27 degrees. We had a lot of trouble with wind here last night. Lots of semis going off the road. Luckily, none of mine.
Its 0 right now with the windchill. Tomorrow night, we are expecting 4-8 in of snow. I had packed a bag last night just in case I had to stay in town. Guess I will just keep it packed and throw it back in my car for tomorrow. I would normally stay with my brother, but he's supposed to move on Friday. I think I will call a friend who manages a hotel near my work, and keep her on standby in case I have to stay in town.
Im ready for spring!:bunny:

I'm with you on Spring Kim!! ;) We had a high of 44* yesterday, today 5* - with a windchill of -19*, oh joy oh joy, lol!! BRRR To be worse tomorrow and back into a winter storm watch/warning starting tomorrow!! GRRRRR!! I want my daffodils - NOW!!! ;)

On Tuesday afternoon, we had wind blasts up to 70 MPH. Memphis International Airport was shut down for a while due to the heavy winds. Many people without electricity because of downed power lines. Lots of trees down and in people's homes. Some trucks overturned on Interstate 40.
Yesterday, Wednesday, was absolutely gorgeous. In the 40s but very sunny. I was out in the late afternoon without a coat on, just a heavy sweater.
Last night, we had rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow mix. I woke up to some white stuff on the roofs and ground. More on the way today and tonight.
I have Tulips coming up in the yard, already. Spring is on it's way. I think Groundhog Day is this Saturday. Hopefully, he won't see his shadow.

I guess I should feel lucky I don't live in Memphis! There's been some pretty awful weather in a lot of places.
It looks like I may be back in Oregon --- most of the snow is gone, but it's raining and supposed to for the rest of the week. The snow weighted down our pool house so we will have to rebuild it when the weather improves. Not a fun task, but without a cover, the pool doesn't ever get warm enough to swim.

Boy, that Austin weather sounds great right now! My sister lives there,..may be time to impose!
It's still snowing on us. Donna's rain changes to white stuff when it gets here. Enough is enough already! (Tracey, call it back!)
Hubby shoveled off the roof 2 days ago and will be back up there shoveling again today.
We haven't had snow like this since the winter of '96, when our newspaper dubbed us "the county of roof dwellers". Looking back at the statistics I had to chuckle when I noticed our county actually dropped in population for '97. I'm thinking we'll see a fair amount of folks again looking to 'get the heck out' come spring.

6-8 inches expected here tonight. And I work right when its supposed to start and get bad. Our busiest night of the week. I really feel for my drivers that have to be out in this stuff. I really hope I make it home tonight. I couldnt clean house last weekend caus I was in a sling. My house really needs it now!
Im ready for those tulips to start poking up in my yard:help:

Ok Vicki! I hereby recall the snow from your area! And if this works, please let me know - I'd probably faint, but let me know, lol!!! ;)
Oh gosh windchaser, I'm with you! No sleet please! I'd much rather have snow that sleet, at least you can get traction on snow :) Thank goodness for 4-wheel drive, lol, unfortunately doesn't work on ice!
Kim, you better be careful heading out and about then!! We are supposed to see 4-6 through tomorrow, but we are on the borderline of the 6-9, so I guess it's a toss-up! ;)

Well is 10pm. One of our drivers is a volunteer firefighter and his town sits right on I57. He called to tell us he couldnt work here tonight because he is too busy pulling people off the interstate and putting them into hotel rooms.
The place where I work has an account with Holiday Inn. My boss told me I could get a room if I needed it. I went ahead an reserved a room. My drivers are all telling me to use it. Might as well I guess. Just wish hubby was with me.
Its a snowin and a blowin here at work! Guess its time for me to get another cup of hot tea:hi:

It has been miserable here, too. We had freezing rain through the night mixed with some snow showers, but it wasn't as bad as we had feared it might be. We warmed up to freezing and precip turned to rain mixed with some snow showers. I despise this stuff, but guess I should be grateful we didn't get the full brunt of the storm those of you farther north are enduring. Hurry up spring!!!
I vote we all bribe the groundhog tomorrow to give a prediction for an early spring. My only question is how do you bribe a groundhog?

It was very cold out here this morning- they said it was 21degrees in Georgetown (which is outside of Austin- austin was 30degrees). Its suppose to warm up again later today with temps in the 60's; tomorrow and Sunday in the 70's.
Glad that I don't live out where the weather is yucky most of the Winter; I wouldn't be able to take it.

I have been living in Florida for 2 yrs now and truly miss one good blizzard. I am from Mass and always enjoyed a good snow storm. When I went home in Nov to visit I so wanted it to snow and it did, the day after I left ! LOL! BUT, sunny and 80 degrees is good too!

LOL Annie - that's a good question, how does one bribe a groundhog???
It's always the way it goes, you always miss what you don't have, even if it was something you never really liked, lmao!! My girlfriend lived in Florida for a time - and missed the Fall and wearing fall sweaters and stuff, lol. ;)

Hi Donna, we got 7 inches of snow yesterday. My daughter's dog today went outside, and it was so funny, the dog jumped like a bunny rabbit through the snow. You would have really got a laugh out of it, it was hilarious. That was about the most entertainment of our day.
Sending hugs, Trish

Hey Tracey today was not to cold and the dog (Bailey) play in the snow. The snow cover up her legs. I gave her a bone and she would throw it up in the air and it landed and sunk in the snow and then she would search for it. She had a blast. I wish you were here to see it today.
Sending hugs, Trish

That is one of the cutest things ever - a snow covered doggy snout! :) That it is one thing that I miss about not having a dog, how cute they look playing in the fluffy white stuff - when they want to that is, lol. ;) My dog I had as a kid, she loved the first or so snow, but if it was too cold out, it was run out, do her business then she was right back at the door wanting in! :) Can't say I blame her there on the cold days!!!
