Hi I have a 9 year old that is going through hell, 7 weeks ago she developed a urine infection, ecoli was treated with 3 lots of anitbiotics, then started peeing blood. was taken into hospital and put on iv antibiotics symptoms of pain on urination did not go away at all.

another 3 courses of antibiotics and she is now consistantly testing negative to any mjore infection.

she is in agony with stabbing pains in her bladder, no fever, burning, scratching and stinging pain in bladder, which is always very tender to the touch.

Blood is plus 2-3 all the time, a ultrasound rules out most obvious things, had lots of bloods, all normal and urine tests now normal.

she has spent 7 weeks off school, were trying d-manoose now, had over 7 lots of antibitotics and the one marked thing is that she never has any lessening in pain in her bladder.

Ultrasound was normal except a very thickened bladder, no one knows what to do with her?

can anyone help?

Has she seen a urologist?

One thing you might try while testing is taking place is to put her on an IC diet. That might help with the pain. It's so sad to see a child going through such a horrible time. I hope you find some answers soon.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna

hi we are in the uk, no one will give us an earlier apt than end of april, I am seeing another paed with her next week and having spoken to another specialist who has treated a 4 yr old with IC I am going armed with some info, as even he said that it is a real possibility that it is IC.

other than that we are going up to the doc, the hospital at least one twice a week, seeing various people, as the urologist are up to 6 month wait.

Is there any way the hospital can maybe get you a quicker appointment to see the specialist? That is terrible that you have to wait so long. I feel so bad for you poor daughter. Have you tried changing her diet? I mean not letting her eat or drink the acidic foods and drinks? Maybe stay with a more bland diet. I mean it is hell being am adult with this disease, but it has to be worse for a child. I pray you will be able to get into see a specialist soon. Maybe this new pediatrician you are taking her to will be able to get you a quicker appointment.

I have to agree with th eothers, I would get her on the IC diet as soon as possible and start having her drink spring water. I am so sorry your daughter is having to deal with this.

My heart is breaking for her and for you, her Mom. It is so hard to see our wee ones suffer. I also suggest that you try the IC Diet for a while, several weeks, to see if that helps elevate some of her symptoms, if not all. You can find the link to the Diet at the top of this page. Read about it and try the elimination part of it.

(((Hugs))) to both of you...

I know you posted this a little while back and I can't add too much to what the others have said. I hope she can see a urologist/specialist soon.

Watch her diet, stay away from the big bladder irritations. Like, sodapop, tea, chocolate, tomato, spicy foods.

Drinking or sipping lots of water throughout the day. Water is very soothing to the bladder .

Do they have pyridium in the UK, it is a pain pill specifically for the bladder.
Could you ask the doctor/hospital about using some to see if it helps her. At least until she can get into see the specialist? I'm not sure if they let children take it, or have a dose for children but you could ask the doctor?.

IC could be a possibility. However she could just have bad inflammation or irration of the bladder, this can be caused by a bad infection. And using the multiple antibiotics, some are very strong and could have made the inflammation/irration worse on top of the infection. I know one new antibiotic I took for a uti irritated my bladder like mad! I took me about 3 weeks to calm down. Antibiotics can irritate the stomach and lots of others things too.

Her bladder might calm down on it's own after she is off all the antibiotics for awhile. This can be a slow, slow process, it might take several weeks.

So maybe in the meantime, drink lots of water, watch the diet. Heating pads can help with pain.

Good luck!
