With my IC I do have urgency and frequency, but I can live with that. I find that my worst symptom is this pelvic floor burning. I have tried hot baths and that gives relief while I am in the bath, but I have to go to work! What's the best relief you all have found for the burning?

I don't have any infection right now...just got tested again this past week.

(Already on Elmiron for the past 5 months and just started Atarax this week.)

You might try some of those stick on heat pads for work. Some people find them very helpful.

I just went to the pharmacy and bough vagisil. I hope this is ok to use. I asked the pharmasist and she didn't seem too knowledgable about IC. I have been reading all over this forum trying to find some answers to the pelvic floor burning and what relieves it. I found some good suggestions.

I use one of those bags filled with corn for a heating pad at work. I heat it in the microwave for a couple of minutes and it stays warm a good while.

Lidocaine gel! You can get a script from your Dr. Most ICers can not tolerate any over the counter creams. Sorry about the Vagisil.. But the lidocaine helps so much with the burning. Also you need to up your water intake to keep your urine diluted.

Hopefully your atarax will kick in and help. Ask your Md like the other post said for lidocaine gel prescription it works. If not the people who make the desert aloe gel pill have a aloe gell. You keep it in the refrigerator and then when you need it it's there. I found it to help soothe the perineuma and vaginal area just as well as lidocaine. VN

Have you tried any of the antispasmodic meds like urelle or prosed? Those are supposed to help with bladder burning. Urelle also has several generic versions available - mine is called utira-c. My bladder has been burning badly since Nov. when we found a uti. During my last visit, my doctor prescribed pyrelle with is basically pyridium with some sort of barbituate in it. I take one a night. Haven't noticed a big difference yet and no I don't feel any sort of "high" from it. It is just supposed to be a little stronger for pain relief. Hope this helps.

My main IC symptom in a flare is burning like you describe. I found the IC diet to help the most for me. Also, I am taking Elmiron.

I did an elimination diet to start with and almost a year later am still slowly trying new foods one at a time when I get up enough courage.

I suggest you eliminate all chemicals right now for topical use. My best guess is that your burning isn't coming from the outside, but from irritated nerves around your bladder firing and causing it.

I say, get on the IC strictly right now. Plain white rice, boiled chicken with nothing on it, maybe some fresh carrots and milk.

I am seeing my gynecologist tomorrow and will ask her for this...Thanks!!!!

I drink so much water I feel like I am going to float away sometimes.

How long before the Atarax kicks in?

Do you ever try a tsp of baking soda in water for burning? It helps some of us. I take Acid Redux tablets throughout the day to help take acid out of food and drinks.

Are Tums ok? I'll try the baking soda. I already take Nexium for GERD.

When I feel the burning coming on,I immediately take a Pyridium and a glass of water with baking soda in it. After a few hours it calms down.
I've started a food diary and I am starting to have a list of my triggers!

I do have pyridium and I do use it for the burning you betcha. I also had my family md write me for 2% lidicoaine gell. It is clear, viscous you apply it around the perineum and vulvodynai area sometime I mayhave to go up a little more. Sometimes it stings a little but then it goes away and you don't feel like you have to pee every 5 minutes. GOod Luck. Askfor the LIdocaine 2% not 1% give it a try. VIcky

Elavil helps my burning bladder sensation. For me, Elavil really dulls the burning. I hope you find something that works for you...Linda
