I had been taking Ibuprophen for my bladder pain and read here that it may be making it worse. Is Tylenol ok? I aksed my urologist and he said it was ok, but he also said that diet doesn't matter so I don't think he is very knowledgable about IC. I need to take something for my pain and can't tolerate the Tramdol he prescribed for me.

I too moved to tylenol. I think it is safe. I would watch my intake, too much is really bad for your liver. If you take it as directed you will be just fine.

Is there anything else for pain that isn't hard on the liver? Elmiron is hard on the liver...right? Plus I take Crestor for high cholesterol already and that's hard on the liver I think I read. I don't want to end up with liver problems on top of this bladder stuff!!!
I hate taking all these pills but I need some pain relief. I have extreme vomiting with Tramdol and any med like that.
Hopefully this Atarax will work, but I don't know. No relief so far.

I think the warning about liver damage with acetaminophen (Tylenol) is there for large (more than the recommended amount on the box) doses.
Tylenol is not ok for me, gives me a flare every time.

As long as you stick with recommended dosage, tylenol should be okay. It has far less side effects than anti-inflammatories.
I also have a problem with nausea with pain meds, but if I take phenergan with them, I do fine.

Hi there! I don't take tylenol very often. When I was first getting treatment for IC I needed to take an anti inflammatory and it was on the weekend. I can't remember what it was for, but it was serious enough for me to page my urologist. The Dr. who called me back advised me to take Ibuprofen and suggested I stay away from tylenol (and I think aspirin) because of the other meds I'm on that are digested through the liver. So, I usually stick to Advil (ibuprofen). Before I became regulated on my meds, I would take advil with prelief and that usually helped.
If you are concerned, I would double check with your doctors (maybe another doctor if this one doesn't seem to knowledgeable).
I hope you find relief soon!
Take care,
Jennifer

Tylonal is very safe when taken correctly. I believe it is suggested to stay under 4000 units a day. I doubt you are taking that much.

I'm the exception here and motrin is the only thing that gives me pain relief. I take 800 mg. at bedtime and have a chem panel twice/year. and take it with food. Tylenol sends me to the moon with pain.

Just in the last few months I haven't been able to tolerate Ibuprofein, but I'm afraid to take Tylenol cause it tends to make me puke. Anybody have any alternative pain releif methods that they do? (I really need to find a new pain med...)

Tylenol has been my life saver with IC. I am on Tylenol w/ codein right now for my shoulder. I also have trouble with tramadol. I puked for 8 hours the second time I took it. The first time I took it, I felt drunk.:loco:
I would talk to your doc about recommended dosage with the tylenol. I usually take 1000mg (recommended on box I think). I dont have to take it very often so I dont worry about it.
Ibuprofen is one of my biggest pain triggers. I could really use it right now. I bet it would help my shoulder to be able to take an anti-inflamatory.
I hope you find relief soon!:hi:

Thanks for your replies, everyone. It looks like Tylenol is another one of those things that some can tolerate and others can't.

It always amazes me that these doctors recommend Advil and such. It drives my pain levels to their max. I firmly believe taking alot of it for a back problem helped contribute to my problems.
It's just so strange how we are all so different. It really makes you wonder what causes our IC. There must be several different factors.
