I was diagnosed just this week and started Elmiron. My pain before has been mostly urethral burning. After being on Elmiron two days I am now having stabbing pains in my bladder and urethral burn. This has me worried. Why have I suddenly started having bladder pains? They really hurt! I am scared I am making things worse.
I was diagnosed with the Potassium Sensitivity Test. Is this always accurate? Do some people test positive and not have IC? I should have asked my doctor, but didn't think to.
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I am so overwhelmed right now. I thought I was doing all the right things, but now I am not so sure. Any advice would be great. Thanks all!

If you were catheterized, you could have a infection (UTI). This is always a possibility when a catheter is used. It would probably be wise to have your urine checked for this possibility.
I hope you start feeling better very soon and will be able to continue with the Elmiron. It has helped many here. :)

Sharon has a great point, or you could just be having a IC flare. In any case i would contact my Dr about the symptoms.
Elmiron made my IC much worse, developed urgency as well as frequency & pain.
Was on it 2 months, got back to my prior level of IC about 2 weeks after I stopped it.
Definitely get checked for infection, but if there's no infection, it could be the Elmiron.
Wishing you better days soon,
Katrina

When I got diagnosed with IC and started Elmiron I continued to get worse for a while before I got better. I have no explanation as to why other than my body was going through a lot and my bladder was taking it all in. I did start to improve at the fourth month point even though I had been getting worse in the beggining. I don't know what the best path is for you but I do believe that we have instincts about our health and that i we can relax and listen to the instincts it can help to guide us. It could be the Elmiron, an infection, or there could be no logical explanation other than IC...or something else all together. Good luck and I hope you find the answer you need and the path you need to relief!! :grouphug:

Hi there! Sorry to hear you are having increased pain. Like Kadi, Elmiron made all my symptoms much worse. My doctor had me try it for several days on two separate occasions and the same thing happened both times. He advised me to never take it again, that I'm someone who just can't tolerate it. I would definitely make sure you don't have an infection first and I would talk to your doctor. My doctor had me stop the Elmiron for weeks (maybe a month) and then I tried to restart it again and the same thing happened. We concluded based on that, that the Elmiron was the culprit. As you probably know, we are all different.
I hope you are able to find relief soon. Take good care of yourself.
Warm hugs,
Jennifer
