Elmiron caused Acid Reflux?

Hi everyone,
I have had this IC since 2001. I have been on Elmiron ever since then. I always got a upset stomach but it would pass. Recently I started to get these awful pains in my throat like I was being strangled! Then it would go into the jaw and back. It was like I was having a heart attack. I saw my doctor and I had seen a heart doctor for skipped heartbeats last year so I started with my regular doctor. He said that he thinks it is stomach related. He put me on Prilosec for two weeks to see. If I get another attack then I will have to see a Gastroentologist.

What I want to know is does anyone else find Elmiron to be to strong for your stomach? Has anyone got Acid Reflux? Because of this I'm not on anything for this bladder but Hydroxyzine at bed time. Please let me know. THANKS

Elmiron can cause stomach upset, but I found taking it out of the capsule helped..

Some people do report that the capsule causes them to have stomach problems.

I had the same reaction to Elmiron. Severe heartburn. I tried taking it different ways including without the capsule. That didn't help for me. The doctor told me to discontinue use.

Sorry to hear about your acid reflux problem. I have Barrett's esophagus and Elmiron didn't bother it at all....or give me more acid reflux.
Maybe something you are eating is causing the reflux.....SO much of our food these days have citric acid or any type of acid for that matter and many other things cause acid reflux. You might go thru your diet and see if something is causing it. Good luck!

sorry to hear your having acid reflux. I got the same reaction until I started to just empty the capsules on my tonuge with a swig of water. now I instill it in my bladder 3 x a day. Maybe that would work for you as well?

I have only been on Elmiron since October but I have found that taking it on an empty stomach doesn't work for me. It caused me terrible stomach pains. My doctor told me that taking a small meal is fine. That has fixed the problem for me. I hope that you can figure it out soon.

Hi thanks for the reply. You had said that you started to take the Elmiron on your tongue. But then you said that now it is instilled three times a day into your bladder. How is this done? And why do that if the Elmiron worked on the tongue? If it didn't tell me how you have it instilled. Thanks

I don't know what to take for my IC since the Elmiron seems to give me acid reflux. My problem is not pain but is frequency. I feel like I have to "go" all the time! every minute.
What does Elavil do for you? Oxytrol patch?
You mentioned that freeze dried AloeVera is like elmiron but natural. I'd like to try this. Why do you still take elmiron if there is a natural product? Thanks!
