Hi Ladies.
Well, I am really getting frustrated and discouraged. I had a bad UTI before Christmas. I had to take antibitoics, which was a HUGE trial for me since I am allergic to most of them or have bad reactions, which I did. I first was on macrobid which gave me chest pain so I had to quit that. Then I was on cipro which gave me severe tendon pain so I stopped that, which I learned that cipro can cause a spontaneous tendon rupture in some people. It is rare, but happens. Scary.
Well I enede up taking sulfa trimeth suspension. I stuck with it for two weeks and made it, but barely. I had alot of side effects. I had a very sore irritated tongue and canker like sores in my throat. Also a day after I finished it, I eneded up with horrid stomach nausea and pain and some diareaha. Not sure why I had this reaction after I finished the antibiotic, but I did. I am werid and have all the rare and strange reactions it seems.
Anyhow, I saw my urogyne last week and before I left the office I left a urine sample as the doctor said he would repeat the culture to be sure the infection was gone. Well, I called the office on Friday and the nurse tells me she did not send it for culture. She said she did the dip stick and it was fine so she did not bother to send it for a culture and she said besides, the doctor did not tell her to.
I was infuriated. I mean I had just spoken to this woman about 4 times the week before becuase of this infection I had and how I was having all these issues, so she knew I had an infection and was being treated. I would think she should have known that my urine shoule have been sent out to culture to make sure the UTI was gone.
Well, this past Friday I did my instillation and I was doing ok up until last night after I showered. I started feeling again like I have a UTI. I wonder if it is the instillations or the showers that are causing me to get a UTI. I am going back again to the office to drop off a urine sample to get cultured in a couple hours. I cant figure out what could be causing me to get the UTI's. My hubby and I do not even have sex anymore becuase of this disease, so it is not that. I am clean when I do my instills, I mean you could not get any cleaner. I also take a shower after I have a bowel movement just to make sure I am extra clean and so bacteria wont migrate to the urethra which is how they say UTI's are caused. WHen I am in the shower, I do let the water run down my front and rinse that way, but dont see how water could cause a UTI unless it is pushing bacteria in there, but how when I am standing up. I dont know. But this is getting frustrating becuase I have issues with taking antibitoics. I have soooo many reactions to them. I am afraid of all the side effects. I take probiotics daily as it is. And then I have to take benadryl every time I take a antibitoic to ward off any severe reactions as this is what my allergist said. I am getting fed up. I take Dmannose, I drink the herbal teas and all that stuff to prevent UTI's and it is not working. Any advice? My urogyne has no clue why. Maybe becuase I have a slow urine stream and bacteria that normally get in are not able to be pushed out due to a slow and weak stream? ANy ideas what I can do?
