Hi everyone,
I've always had this symptom with my pfd and I'm wondering if it's normal or typical. I get pain in my butt, literally! Very close to the rectum, right around the "sit bones" where the pelvis touches your chair. When my PFD is really acting up, that's the place I usually feel it. I'm not sure if that's just a hot spot, or a particularly sensitive area, or what. Does anyone else experience this? And what do you do to soothe it? About all I can do for it now is stick my TENS electrodes on it, but I'm not sure it's actually helping.....
Thanks in advance,
Jen

I should add the following question. Do you think that orgasm helps or aggravates your PFD? On the one hand, it seems like a good muscle relaxant. On the other hand, it does cause inflammation. Just an added thought/question.

You could have something more going on. I would do some research on your Pudendal Nerve. And also talk with your Dr about this..

Are your BM's affected? Do you get constipated a lot? Is it effect a bowel movement? Those are classic signs of PFD.

Ronda said exactly what I was thinking, you should look up info about the pudendal nerve. I don't think I have the actual entrapment that you might find some info about but mine are def inflammed because it can be really painful to sit at times. I purchased the seat cushion from the ICNshop and it really does help. My dr's office who does the nerve blocks on my pudendal nerves is a 3 hour drive round trip and I would not be able to do it as comfortably as I do if it weren't for that seat cushion. I even asked my dr about a cushion for it and he handed me a print out from the ICNshop so it's the only place I know where to get it.
I find that orgasm always makes my PFD worse. My pain, frequency and urgency go through the roof if I have an orgasm. I think it just makes all the muscles so tight that I can't get them to relax for awhile which is the cause of all of my post sex flares.
I have the same pain as you mention. I am so sorry because I know how much this hurts as I have severe PFD. Here is my opinion on your question from what I have experienced and educated myself on.
I see a Uro/Gyn who is also a PHD. He does all of the clinic trials for PFD and IC proposed treatments. In addition, he speaks nationally on PFD/IC. His belief is that PFD, except in cases of entrapment, are always associated with the pudendal nerve.
There are just so many muscles that make the "hammock" of muscles that are called the Pelvic Floor. All of these muscles, including the bladder as it is muscular in material, rely on the pudendal nerve to translate signals from the brain. That is what they are stimulating that nerve with various electrical units.
I went to a PFD PT specialist and she gave me five things to do to help with the top 5 impacts of PFD. One of which is... if you have problems having a BM what pressure point to push. Someday I need to find that list and post is on this site.
I hope that helps along with the excellent suggestions from the other gals who responded. Oh, by the way, orgasim is a relief to my PFD. My PT taught me that. Know this is weird to take about but....I mean orgasim without penatration.
Regardless, people feel it in different areas. One question is, have you ever broken your tale bone? I have and that makes my bottom so much worse.
Hope you feel better,
Betsy

Are the nerve blocks painful and how many and how often do you have to have them?

Hi, my therapist was actually explaining that to me today about the pudendal nerve, because when she touched that area it hurt, now she said I don't have the entrapment and my doc said that also, but she said the tissue around the nerve and the area is inflamed. She explained how its all linked together. I would have it evaluated so you know whats going on. Good luck. :) Lisa

If is not entrapment what exactly can you do for it? Can our gyn-ob tell if it is entrapment? I have appointment on Wednesday.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the helpful info so far. I hadn't considered pudendal nerve entrapment so I'll look into it. I actually started seeing a chiropractor, maybe I should tell him about that? It sounds like something he may be able to help with.
Izazen, the answer to your question about constipation is YES. It always makes the pain there worse afterwards. BBB - where is this magic pressure point to push??
And follow up question for the group - I am considering pregnancy and am petrified of what this will do to my PFD. My PT actually mentioned to me that pregnancy is great for it. Would love to hear your opinions on that!
Thanks again!

My sciatic nerve has really been missed up. My chiropractor has really helped me. My pudendal was causing me severe pain. I didn't know what it was until I started searching on this site. Finally after my last treatment it has stopped. Hope it never acts up again. Good Luck to you
